What did our critic think of CHICAGO at The Orpheum Theatre Memphis? Chicago is celebrating 25 dazzling years and it has returned to Memphis! It is certainly a fan favorite, with exhilirating dancing and an iconic story that is known around the world. The 1975 musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, is the 2nd longest running Broadway musical (thanks to the 1996 revival), behind fan favorite Phantom of the Opera.

In America its chief luminaries were Sigmund Romberg, Victor Herbert, and Rudolf Friml. From the 1920's to the '40's the modern musical gradually drove operettas from the stage (except for the happily undying works of Gilbert & Sullivan). And I miss them! So I greatly approve of Winter Opera's offering us this old piece.

Mint Theater Company returns to New York City Ce nter Stage II with the American premiere of Noël Coward’s The Rat Trap, directed by Alexander Lass, opening Monday November 21st (7pm) at New York City Center Stage II for a limited Off-Broadway engagement through December 10th only. 

Michael Butler, famed producer of the musical Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, passed peacefully November 7, 2022 at the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging in Reseda, CA.  He was born November 26, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois.

The Nederlander Organization will officially rename the Brooks Atkinson Theatre as the Lena Horne Theatre  on Tuesday, November 1, in honor of the iconic entertainer and civil rights activist, becoming the first Broadway theatre to be named for a Black woman.

The Ocean Community United Theatre Board of Directors, led by board co-Chairs Charles Royce and Nicholas Moore, have announced that they have hired Carly Callahan to lead the organization as Executive Director.

The full length concert is exclusively performed by  Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, who recently completed an eight-week engagement  of the fantasy musical, “Into The Woods” on Broadway. Austrian violist Thomas Riebl will be performing a rare US concert as part of the Walter W. Naumburg Foundation's distinguished series featuring past winners, Naumburg Looks Back, on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 7:30pm in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.  This concert celebrates the 40th anniversary of Mr. Riebl's winning of the first-ever Naumburg Viola Award in 1982.
