A few months after the Allman Brothers Band released their revered fourth studio album Brothers And Sisters, legendary frontman, vocalist, pianist Gregg Allman stepped out on his own with his masterful debut solo album Laid Back. Co-produced by Allman along with Johnny Sandlin, the collection of songs was a creative outlet where he was able to assume full control and explore his varying influences, including rhythm and blues and soul music. Exemplified by the album title's relaxed approach, the songs were a departure from his band's guitar-heavy sound in favor of gospel-tinged organs, slower tempos and a choir, all of which beautifully buoyed Allman's soulful, and at times, mournful vocals.

 This summer, during the second annual Detroit Art Week, Reyes | Finn is opening solo exhibitions by Detroit-based artist James Benjamin Franklin and DetroitBaltimore-based artist, Marcellus Armstrong.

PTPNYC (Potomac Theatre Project), in association with Middlebury College, presents its 33rd repertory season, its 13th consecutive in New York City. Previews begin tonight for a July 16 opening, running through August 4 in a limited Off-Broadway engagement at The Atlantic Stage 2, located at 330 West 16th Street.

From Wednesday, August 7 through Tuesday, August 20, BAM Presents PUNKS, POETS, AND VALLEY GIRLS: WOMEN FILMMAKERS IN 1980s AMERICA, a 14-day, 27-feature, 10-short series that surveys bold works by female filmmakers in a conservative decade, ranging from studio blockbusters to politically radical underground masterpieces. The series builds on BAM's previous surveys of American women filmmakers. 

Mark Morris Dance Group & Music Ensemble returns to Jacob's Pillow's Ted Shawn Theatre, July 17-21, restaging both new and beloved repertory. 'A tour de force of artistic storytelling' (The Los Angeles Times), this audience favorite is renowned for deeply witty and poetic dance and has amassed one of the most extensive Pillow performance records of any artist. Mark Morris Dance Group & Music Ensemble performs Prelude and Prelude-a work that has not been performed anywhere since 1992-the new work Sport, excerpts from Words, and the company classic Grand Duo.

On behalf of the Gisela Johnson and the Johnson family, we are informing you that Emmy winning comedic actor, Arte Johnson has passed at 1:45am, July 3rd, 2019.  There are no services planned.  His ashes will be taken to his home away from home in HI, were a private ceremony will be held.

It is very difficult to tag Johan Osuldsen under one banner. He started out as a dancer and performer, spanning over several decades. Later he became known as a choreographer and director and subsequently directed for television. He is also a composer as well as translator of several musicals (including Stephen Sondheim's 'Company', 'Into the Woods' and Jason Robert Brown's 'The Last Five Years).

With a remarkable career spanning 35 years and following his sold-out tour of Australia in 2017, British singer-songwriter Lloyd Cole  returns with a special concert at Arts Centre Melbourne's Hamer Hall on 11 December 2019. Cole, former The Commotions front man and solo artist, will perform his classic hits and introduce audiences to his new album Guesswork as part of his 2019 Australian tour.

Word for Word and Z Space will stage an immersive production of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's legendary Rime of the Ancient Mariner  with a press night of Saturday September 21 at 8pm running through October 12 (Previews Sept 11-15, 18-20) .   Rime of the Ancient Mariner is to be directed by Jim Cave and Delia MacDougall with a cast that features Nathaniel Andalis, Lucas Brandt, Robert Ernst*, Darryl V. The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. The National Civil Rights Museum is honored to present the exhibit Romare Bearden: Vision and Activism opening Friday, June 21. The exhibit shows how African American artist Romare Bearden (1911-1988) broke stereotypes about black life by envisioning a complex community striving for collobarative justice and redefining beauty in the landscape of the African American experience.
