Long ago but not far away at all, there were many TV Variety Shows, Award Ceremonies, Music Centers and Theatre abounding with live Musical Performances, all with massive budgets; and dancers in this town, Los Angeles, made a darn good living, albeit having to work their asses off to do so, but it was a good and plentiful, fulfilling life. Besides myself, there was a plethora of working, professional dancers who ended up bonding together pretty easily, as a dancer's life is one of a nomad, or gypsy, going from one job to another, but in doing so, finding kindred spirits and lifelong connections. Jay Johnson, husband of one of these dancers and artistically gifted himself, was part of the artistic community, as was his wife, Sandi, and, typical with dancers, became close friends and comrades with other dancers, choreographers, and like-minded performers. As Jay was earning international fame as a ventriloquist, actor and comedian, and starring on the hit TV Series 'Soap,' us dancers were slaving away, happy to be able to make a living doing what we loved. Jay is best known for his role on ' Soap' as Chuck Campbell, a ventriloquist who believed his puppet Bob was real and demanded everyone treat Bob as human.

Tomorrow, August 25, marks what would have been legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday. Bernstein's work ranges from beloved musicals such as West Side Story and Peter Pan, to classic operettas like Candide. The author, pianist, and lecturer has inspired generations of composers, songwriters, singers, and artists, including Broadway standout Kristin Chenoweth.

For more than Sixty Years THE FOUR TOPS, a vocal quartet from Detroit, Michigan helped define the Legendary Motown sound with a repertoire that included Soul Music, R&B, Adult Contemporary and Jazz. Their first Motown hit, "Baby I Need Your Loving" in 1964, made them stars and their sixties track record on the label is indispensable to any retrospective of that decade. Their songs, soulful and bittersweet, were across-the-board successes. "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)", a No.1 R&B and Pop smash in 1965, is one of Motown's longest-running chart toppers, followed "It's The Same Old Song"; "Reach Out I'll Be There"; "Standing In The Shadows Of Love"; "Bernadette"; "It's All In The Game"; "Still Water (Love)"; "You Keep Running Away", and many more. Today's subject Ann Hould-Ward is both a Tony and Drama Desk Award winning costume designer. Her work isn't limited just to the theatre by any means.
