Bryn Terfel Withdraws from TOSCA at the Metropolitan Opera

Sir Bryn Terfel has had to withdraw from the Met's new production of Puccini's Tosca as he takes enforced rest due to vocal fatigue. eljko Lu i will sing the role of Scarpia on December 31, 2017, and January 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 23, and 27 (matinee), 2018.

Today, December 12, 2017, Broadway Dreams will honor Tony and Grammy Award-winner Heather Headley in celebration of 20 years since her Broadway debut in Disney's landmark musical The Lion King. The tenth annual Broadway Dreams Supper will take place at The Plaza. Immediately following her critically acclaimed performance in The Band's Visit on today, December 12, Katrina Lenk will pay tribute to Tony and Grammy Award winner Heather Headley during the tenth annual Broadway Dreams Supper at The Plaza (?58th Street and Fifth Avenue). Lenk joins newly announced Tony Award nominee Adrienne Warren (Shuffle Along...), soon to make her eagerly anticipated West End debut as Tina Turner in Tina: The Musical.

Akemi Naito Honors Emily Bront at 200 With a Mono-Opera

Tenri Cultural Institute presents the world premiere of Emily Bront Through Life and Death, A Chainless Soul, a poetic mono-opera in one act based on selected poems of Emily Bront by composer Akemi Naito on Friday, January 5th and Saturday, January 6th at 8pm. Honoring the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Emily Bront in 2018, this mono-opera is a collaborative work with mezzo-soprano Jessica Bowers, pianist Marilyn Nonken, actor Robert Ian Mackenzie, and visual artist Toshihiro Sakuma, whose Healing exhibition will be on view.

Gianandrea Noseda Returns to the United States to Conduct in New York and D.c.

Maestro Gianandrea Noseda returns to the United States this month through early December to conduct a wide range of programs from Dallapiccola to Beethoven and Gershwin to Britten beginning with his first series of subscription weeks as the new Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra. In between concerts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Noseda returns to the New York Philharmonic for the first time since 2006, leading the orchestra in a program that will include Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 3.

From Opera To Opry: LIQUOR, LOVE, AND THE LORD Returns on 12/5

The Atlanta Opera will present From Opera to Opry: Liquor, Love and the Lord on Tuesday, December 5th at The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. Now in its second year, the holiday concert, in collaboration with ADA Ovations, will feature renowned professional opera singers as well as the bluegrass and country stylings of Cletus McHatfield and the McHatfield Fambly Singers. From Opera to Opry thrilled a packed house in December 2016, bringing the crowd to its feet on multiple occasions to applaud, as well as dance in the aisles.

Riverside Opera Company presents A WEDDING IN SONG AND DANCE

The Riverside Opera Company (ROC), under the direction of Maestro Alan Aurelia, presents: A Wedding in Song and Dance a performance that includes tri-state area audition winners Soprano Sun Young Chang and Tenor Seunghwan Oh performing excerpts from La Boheme, performances by Dawn Daniels and Dancers performing traditional Irish Jigs and Reels; Lydias School of Dance performing ballets from Aida by Verdi accompanied by pianist Olga Gurevich. Youth performers include Brian Moses on piano, Isabel Bruschi on violin and Kristian Marino on trumpet performing a wide range of pieces including La boheme: Musetta's Waltz, 'Flight of the Bumblebee' and 'Danny boy.

NORMA to Open The Metropolitan Opera's 133rd Season

FUN HOME Opens 30th Anniversary Season at The Armory

Portland Center Stage at The Armory's 30th anniversary season opens with the groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home. Created by Jeanine Tesori (music) and Lisa Kron (book and lyrics) and based on the celebrated graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home will begin preview performances on September 16, open September 22, and run through October 22 on The Armory's U.S. Bank Main Stage. Artistic Director Chris Coleman will direct a cast lead by Allison Mickelson, Sara Masterson and Aida Valentine as the central character, Alison, at three different ages. Robert Mammana (previously at The Armory as Skye Masterson in Guys and Dolls and Father in Ragtime) and Faith Sandberg will play Alison's parents, Bruce and Helen Bechdel.
