Wekiva River Players Present Student Showcase Ft. Adam Pascal

nt a Student Showcase Performance on November 10 at 8pm in the Lake Mary High School Auditorium, featuring special performances by Broadway star Adam Pascal, who originated the role of Roger in RENT on Broadway and in the 2005 film. The showcase will follow a master class workshop to be conducted by Pascal from 2-5pm at the same location.

Wolfgang Koch Withdraws From Metropolitan Opera's Fall Production of Puccini's TOSCA

Wolfgang Koch has withdrawn from the Metropolitan Opera's fall performances of Puccini's Tosca, due to illness. Željko Lu?i? will now sing the role of Scarpia in the season premiere performance on October 25, and Claudio Sgura will sing the remaining six performances of the fall run.  Mr. Koch's Met debut will be delayed until March, when Tosca returns to the repertory for a spring run.

New York Choral Society Commemorates Anniversary Of End Of WWI & Kristallnacht

Monday evening, November 12, 2018, 8 p.m., The New York Choral Society and Orchestra (NYCHORAL) will present its first program of the season, MY SHADOW AND MY LIGHT, under the baton of Music Director David Hayes at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. In honor of Veterans Day and in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, Maestro Hayes has chosen a program that explores how three early 20th-century composers, two British and one American, created works expressing their deeply personal reactions to these profound moments in human history.

Hailed as 'the world's greatest tenor' by The Telegraph, superstar German tenor Jonas Kaufmann returned to Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium Perelman Stage on last week for a special one-night-only performance of hits from his bestselling album You Mean the World to Me. Accompanied by Orchestra of St. Luke's, under the direction of conductor Jochen Rieder, this concert features hits from Germany's Golden Era-a time when operetta and popular song were flourishing-ranging from the unbeatable hits of the 'Golden 20s' to the songs of the new 'talkie' era.

Greenway Arts Alliance Announces Casting For THE COLOR PURPLE

Greenway Arts Alliance (Whitney Weston and Pierson Blaetz, Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors) announced the cast and creative team for the THE COLOR PURPLE, which will play at the Greenway Court Theatre (544 N. Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles). Performances run from November 9 through December 9 with the official press opening on Saturday, November 10. The Tony Award-winning musical features a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Directing and choreographing the cast of 15 is NAACP Theater Award-winner Jeffrey Polk (Smokey Joe's Cafe).

The Guadalupe Dance Company launches its 2018/2019 Season by kicking-off a new series of First Friday performances. First Fridays serve to provide a vibrant cultural experience for locals and tourists alike. Each performance takes place in the historic Guadalupe Theater on the first Friday of every month starting with Celebrando Tradiciones on October 5, 2018, at 8:00pm. Each month will have a different theme; however, the core will be a professional folklorico dance showcase of various Mexican states including rarely performed regions accompanied by Mariachi Azteca de America who will provide live music throughout the entire show.

Acclaimed Soprano Anna Netrebko to Sing Her First Met AIDA

Anna Netrebko makes her Met role debut in the title role of the enslaved Ethiopian princess in Verdi's tragedy of ancient Egypt, Aida, opening September 26. Anita Rachvelishvili sings the role of her formidable rival, Amneris, following the Georgian soprano's critically acclaimed portrayal of Azucena in Verdi's Il Trovatore last season. The cast also features Aleksandrs Antonenko as the warrior Radames, Quinn Kelsey as Aida's father, Amonasro, Dmitry Belosselskiy as the high priest Ramfis, and Ryan Speedo Green as the King, under the baton of Nicola Luisotti. The October 6 matinee will be transmitted worldwide, kicking off the Met's new Live in HD series, now reaching more than 2,000 movie theaters in 73 countries around the world.

Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Appoints Traditional Music Director

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center appoints long-time music instructor Gumecindo "Gino" Rivera to the position of Traditional Music Director at the Guadalupe Academy. Rivera has taught mariachi classes, vocals, and individual instruments at the Guadalupe Academy for 12 years and is the musical director of the professional mariachi group Azteca de America.

BroadwayWorld recently announced that stage and screen star Will Chase will join Kelli O'Hara in the Broadway-bound Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Kiss Me, Kate. Roundabout welcomes back longtime friends of the theater: Tony winner Kelli O'Hara who was nominated for her role in the 2006 revival of The Pajama Game opposite Harry Connick, Jr., and Will Chase returns to Roundabout following his Tony nominated role in 2012 revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Karamu House, the oldest multicultural performing arts center in the country, closes it's 102nd consecutive season with the Tony Award-winning musical Passing Strange. Karamu House President and CEO, Tony F. Sias notes, 'this is a piece that is important and relevant, and speaks to and engages our millennial and 'genZ' generations.' With book and lyrics written by Tony Award-winning singer-songwriter Stew, and music composed by Stew and Heidi Rodewald, the production opened on May 10 and will run through June 3, 2018 in Karamu's Arena Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio.

Houston Grand Opera To Celebrate Return To Wortham Theater Center With HGO And Plácido

When Houston Grand Opera (HGO) opened its first season in Houston's new opera house at the Wortham Theater Center in 1987, world-renowned tenor Placido Domingo starred in Verdi's Aida. Now, just over 30 years later, Domingo will again take the Wortham stage on September 26 for HGO and Placido-Coming Home!, a gala evening celebrating the company's return to its creative home after a year of displacement following Hurricane Harvey. Joined by beloved Houston soprano Ana Maria Martinez and the HGO Orchestra conducted by HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers, Domingo will perform an evening of operatic and popular musical favorites. The concert, which begins at 7 p.m., will be followed by a celebration dinner in the Ballroom at Bayou Place.
