Putting current events to the songs from musicals, this show is inspired.

Artistic Director Jeffrey Cass and Executive Director Julie Ann Kornak will present the final show of BrightSide Theatre’s 10th Anniversary Season – BrightSide is Back! The twice postponed production closes out the season with the music of ABBA in the musical that has entertained over 60 million people around the globe -  Mamma Mia!  

Last month, the groundbreaking band, led by vocalist/guitarist Harrison Stafford, unveiled their first single from the upcoming album, 'Original Riddim,' featuring guest vocals from the legendary roots harmony groups ISRAEL VIBRATION and THE ABYSSINIANS. Today, Groundation presents “Human Race,” the second release from ONE ROCK.

The State Theatre in Easton has announced new shows for the 2021-2022 Season, along with a sneak peek of what’s to come next season! Tickets for these additional shows will go on sale to State Theatre Members Wednesday, Dec 1 at 10 am. Tickets will go on sale to the public Wednesday, December 8 at 10 AM.

In October 2001, Mamma Mia! opened on Broadway, just weeks after the horrific events of 9/11, and most pundits had little inkling that the show – a jukebox musical comprised of ABBA hits and the story of a young girl trying to divine the identity of her father from among three of her mother’s suitors some 21 years earlier – would go on to become the ninth longest running musical in the history of the New York theatrical enclave. But Mamma Mia! was exactly what the theater-going public needed in the aftermath of an epoch-shattering and historic event: an enormously entertaining, fast-paced show set to an eminently hummable, danceable score of songs that could whisk them away to another time and place.

While the large-scale musical tends to receive the most attention from audiences, oftentimes it's the small musicals that speak to us in the most impactful ways. For fans of emotional one act musicals and cult-classic Off-Broadway shows, we're rounding up what we think are some of the best small cast musicals out there!

The State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton, PA, has announced its 2021-2022 Season, the 95th season at the historic venue.  Tickets for the new season will go on sale to State Theatre Members on Monday, August 2nd, and to the general public on Monday, August 9th.

Performers include Rhiannon Porter (Finalist, Eurovision: You Decide 2018; Les Misérables 25th Anniversary Production, O2 Arena) and JoJo Desmond (Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake; Lead Vocalist, Doctor Who Live, UK Arena Tour). Joining them is Edward Handoll (BIG The Musical, West End; Saturday Night Fever, UK Tour), and Loucas Hajiantoni (One Night of Tina, European Tour).

In an exhilarating two-hour recreation of ABBA’s last ever concert, ABBA MANIA brings to life the flamboyance of the 70s and all the uplifting, dance-inducing, and sometimes heart-breaking songs from the Swedish ‘Supergroup’, fully live with fantastic costumes, staging, lighting and effects.

Carolin Fortenbacher cannot be stereotyped. Once you think that you fully understand her and you can pigeonhole her, she’ll surprise you the next time. This is why she has been doing different shows since 1985 such as “West Side Story”, “Man of La Mancha”, “Pirates of Penzance”, “Next to Normal” or “Mamma Mia”, just to name a view.

There is a particular snobbery surrounding musical theatre: critics say that in a moment of high drama, crisis or emotion, the most unrealistic thing to do would be to break into song. Musicals are too camp, annoying and definitely not cool. They appeal to the coach parties of tourists rocking up in Leicester Square every weekend (those were the days!). However, musicals are not representations of real life, nor do they pretend to be. A successful musical has a magical combination of highly memorable music, an engaging storyline, incredible choreography and visually impressive set and costume design. It’s not a coincidence that the best musical theatre performers are called a triple threat, as they act, sing and dance, often without any perceivable effort.

Hollywood has always had a love affair with musicals. Whether it be Golden Age classics, ambitious Broadway adaptations, or animated adventures, American audiences flock to theaters to see a film that features some toe-tappin’ tunes. 

Right off the bat, I will say that this is going to be the most interesting Tony Awards ever.

Village Theatre Has Announced its 2020-2021 Season which is filled with a compelling collection of shows that will combine to create an incredible year of theatre. The lineup includes: Mamma Mia!, a dazzling musical triumph filled to the brim with hit ABBA songs; Hello, Dolly!, the universally acclaimed smash hit; Deathtrap, a deliciously shocking comedy thriller; Making Tracks, a powerful musical about the Asian-American experience; and Ain't Misbehavin', a delightful and energizing revue featuring the music of Fats Waller.

Jeff Parry was raised in Ottawa, ON. His love of music began when he was 9 years old when he fell in love with The Beatles. He has always had a passion for. music, so after University, he moved out west to try to raise money to open a record store in Ottawa. He wound up staying in Alberta and rather than open a record store, in 1978, he started a concert promotion business, producing tribute shows. That evolved into becoming an agent and ultimately, a theatrical producer. I had the chance to speak with Parry on the eve of the Montreal run of the award winning musical, WE WILL ROCK YOU, a jukebox musical based on the songs of British rock band Queen with a book by Ben Elton, which lands in Montreal on February 10.
