The Ellen Theatre to Present THE MAIDS

The Ellen Theatre invites audiences to a?oeget up close and personala?? with Jean Genet's classic play THE MAIDS, performed February 28, 29 and March 1. Presented by Nervous Theatre and based on an actual 1933 murder case, this particular production has quite the twist a?' patrons will be sitting on stage, with the hair-raising action happening all around them.

In celebration of what would be legendary film and television icon Ricardo Montalbán's 100th birthday in 2020, the historic Hollywood theatre, The Montalbán, whose moniker is “where entertainment begins,” is unveiling new plans to fulfill Ricardo Montalbán's dream of diversity and inclusion. This year, the owners of The Montalbán, Ricardo's son in law and President of The Montalbán Company, LLC, Gilbert Smith, and daughter Anita, have plans to expand the theatre's musical performances, beginning with The Company Men on February 21 and 22; and The Soul of Broadway Starring Terron Brooks on February 28 and 29.

The Ellen Theatre invites audiences to 'get up close and personal' with Jean Genet's classic play THE MAIDS, performed February 28, 29 and March 1. Presented by Nervous Theatre and based on an actual 1933 murder case, this particular production has quite the twist - patrons will be sitting on stage, with the hair-raising action happening all around them.

The Morris Museum commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27) and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz with an exhibition of paintings by David Friedmann (1893-1980), a renowned portraitist in Berlin and Prague before his deportation to Lodz Ghetto in 1941. The works on view portray Friedmann's haunting memories of survival during the Holocaust, from life in the Ghetto, to internment at Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and sub camps Gleiwitz I and Blechhammer until his liberation in 1945.  The selected works, created in Prague from 1945-1948, are part of a series entitled, Because They Were Jews!

'I don't know what the hell that was, but I f*$&ing loved it!' --recent Poetry/Cabaret audience member In this “variety salon,” a multi-genre evening of emotional whiplash, the coffeehouse meets the cabaret as “Poetry/Cabaret” (Time Out NY-recommended) once again brings together poets and performers in a face-paced night of stimulating variations on a theme. The second episode of the season, “SEASONED”, billed as a “non-holiday holiday” show, explores a wide range of experiences associated with this time of year—Feeling spicy? Seen it all? Been through a few things? (Too) full of holiday cheer? Curator and host Thomas March (Aftermath) and the cast explore these and more, in song, poetry, comedy, and story. In addition to the host's comic monologue, the show will feature poetry from Tyler Mills and Thoughtress; comedy from Ashley Gavin; and music from Jen Kwok and Kat Liz Kramer. Drew Wutke will be on keys as musical director.

Directed by Marcie Warner, The Homecoming is a heartwarming family story based on Earl Hamner Jr.'s novel and adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel. The story takes place one Christmas Eve in 1933 as the Spencer family, known on television as a?oeThe Waltons,a?? awaits the return of their father, who has had to find work many miles from home. With anxious anticipation, his eight children and their mother prepare for Christmas with the uncertainty of his return in the midst of a winter snow storm. The eldest son, who also narrates the tale, is sent out to find his father, encountering many of the town's characters, as well as some revelations about them, himself, and the man for whom he is searching. It is a perfect a?oeget you in the mood for the holidaysa?? experience that will be sure to please Playhouse audiences.

Been through a few things? (Too) full of holiday cheer? Curator and host Thomas March (Aftermath) and the cast explore these and more, in song, poetry, comedy, and story. In addition to comedy from the host, the show will feature poetry from Tyler Mills and Thoughtress; comedy from Ashley Gavin; and music from Jen Kwok and Kat Liz Kramer. Drew Wutke will be on keys as musical director. Throughout the evening, the audience will be treated to special guest performances (Jonathan Chang, Jordan Ho, Hector Lionel, Jerome Ellison Murphy, Daniel Nolen, and others ) from A Good Mixer, a dramatic visual and poetry hybrid developed by Thomas March and painter Valerie Mendelson. Based on a cocktails guide that came out in 1933, the year Prohibition ended, the project presents a?oeportraitsa?? of cocktails alongside poems imagining the personae of the people who are drinking thema?'their public a?oepartya?? selves as well as the thoughts they keep hidden from others. MasterVoices Opens Season With Gershwins' LET 'EM EAT CAKE

MasterVoices will begin its 2019-20 season on Thursday, November 21 at Carnegie Hall with the concert staging of George and Ira Gershwins' 1933 musical Let 'Em Eat Cake, with a book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, a comic satire about a populist U.S. President who is voted out of office and stages a coup to regain power.

Luna Stage's World Premiere production of Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library opens this Saturday, October 19, at 8pm. Founder and Academic Director of the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities Roger Berkowitz, playwright Jenny Lyn Bader, director Ari Laura Kreith, and assistant director Chris Kuiken will join the audience for post-show conversations during the first two weekends of Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library at Luna Stage.
