They did it again! ArtsBridge Foundation and Georgia Public Broadcasting earned their second-straight Emmy Award for their production of the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as The Shuler Awards.

From September through May of this year, hundreds of high school productions in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Manatee Counties were reviewed by a team of theater professionals, college faculty and industry experts who provided feedback to students and instructors.

What makes a Broadway theatre? Technically any venue with 500 seats or more, located along Broadway in New York City's Theatre District is a Broadway theatre, and the art that is produced in these special places is widely considered the highest form of theatrical entertainment in the world. Today, forty-one theatres are technically Broadway houses, each with their own rich history. Below, we're giving you the scoop on the life of every one of them!

Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce that star of CBS' hit show BULL and Broadway's Hamilton, Christopher Jackson, will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2019 Henry Mancini Awards. In its 25th year, the Mancini Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre in Beaver, Butler, and Lawrence Counties and are a participant in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards.  This year's ceremony is May 19 at 7 pm in Lincoln Park's Mainstage Theater.

 It's the biggest night of the year for Georgia high school musical theatre students nominated for the 2019 Shuler Hensley Awards. The awards event-named for the Atlanta-born Tony Award winner who is emcee of the evening's Broadway-style production-includes winners recognized as the best of the state's high school musical theatre students and schools during 2018-19.

Mean girls, Heather, Heather and Heather, rule Westerberg High School in "Heathers The Musical," featuring book, music, and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O'Keefe, with direction by James R. Taulli at Cal State Fullerton, April 19-May 5 in the Young Theatre on campus.

The Bear Quartet of The Gifted Music School in Salt Lake City, Utah will appear on an upcoming episode of From the Top, the hit NPR radio program featuring America's best young classical musicians. The show will air on Classical 89, Saturday April 27 at 11 AM and by podcast at fromthetop.org beginning April 22. The broadcast features performances and interviews with outstanding young musicians and Guest Host Peter Dugan. The show was taped at the Hollywood Scoring Studio in Los Angeles on February 24, as part of a three-day From the Top residency, comprised of creative music making, career development, and community engagement, designed to enrich both personal and artistic growth for thirteen young musicians from throughout the country.

Brooklyn Music School (BMS) presents the 6th Annual Middle School Jazz Festival today, March 2, 2019 from 12pm to 6:30pm, with a concert at 4:30pm, followed by a jam session with students, faculty, and guest artist. BMS is located at 126 Saint Felix Street, Brooklyn. Concert tickets are a $10 suggested donation.

Producers Anita Greenspan and Tony Hawk with Executive producer Adam Zotovich announced today that a new musical adaptation of the 2007 Nick Hornby novel, SLAM, is in development. This new project will feature a book by Tony Award Nominee Kyle Jarrow (SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical) with music and lyrics by Mark Mothersbaugh (prolific film composer, co-founder of new wave band Devo). Pro-skater Tony Hawk, who is featured as a character in the novel, is a producer on the project and is slated to develop skate choreography.

ArtsBridge and the Georgia Lottery teamed up for the HOPE Jingle Contest. To enter, accredited Georgia High School Musical Theatre and Dramatic Arts Programs were invited to perform a creative version of the "HOPE Jingle" and submit a video of themselves performing it in their own unique way. Ten semi-finalists were selected by a panel of judges. Then the public cast more than 66,000 votes to help choose five winners who will be awarded additional funds for their theatre departments by the Georgia Lottery. Ever since Chicago hit the big screen in 2002, Hollywood has re-embraced the movie musical. On October 5, a new title joins the genre when A Star Is Born, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, is released. At least for now, the film is Certified Fresh, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%, but will it hold up?

More than 500 people packed The White Theatre at the Jewish Community Center (The J) cheering on 21 singers during the Semifinals of KC SuperStar. But in the end, 10 area high school students were chosen as finalists* for the 2018 KC SuperStar singing competition!

Living Over The Rainbow is a new musical based on a true story that made national headlines in 2008 when a young gay teenager, Lawrence King, was murdered by a fellow classmate at his high school in Oxnard, California. The circumstances of his death and the issues brought to light by it have now been made into a heartfelt and inspirational musical about acceptance and finding peace crafted by Roz Esposito.

The 10th Anniversary of the Shuler Hensley Awards were held in Atlanta at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on April 19.  Two of the award winners, Parker Jennings and Laughton Berry, will compete with young performers from across the country for the coveted Jimmy® Award as well as scholarships and professional opportunities. The National High School Musical Theatre Awards - Jimmy® Awards - will take place at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway at 7:30 pm on June 25, 2018, and will be hosted by Tony Award Winner® Laura Benanti.  For the first time ever, the Jimmy® Awards will be streamed live on Facebook at facebook.com/JimmyAwards. With support from 2017 Tony Award winning Best Musical Dear Evan Hansen and Wells Fargo, the livestream will also include special content for those watching online!

The year-long program culminates in an awards show featuring the next generation of Georgia's musical theatre talent. Presented by the Georgia Lottery, this year's awards show will air on Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) over its nine-station statewide television network live from Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on April 19, 2018 from 7-9 pm.
