Disney's High School Musical is a contemporary musical comedy about the story of two teenagers - Troy Bolton, super-popular captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, super-smart transfer student and a genius in science class - who try to navigate the tricky currents of peer pressure to follow their dream and score the leads in the big school show.
They did it again! ArtsBridge Foundation and Georgia Public Broadcasting earned their second-straight Emmy Award for their production of the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as The Shuler Awards.
From September through May of this year, hundreds of high school productions in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Manatee Counties were reviewed by a team of theater professionals, college faculty and industry experts who provided feedback to students and instructors.
What makes a Broadway theatre? Technically any venue with 500 seats or more, located along Broadway in New York City's Theatre District is a Broadway theatre, and the art that is produced in these special places is widely considered the highest form of theatrical entertainment in the world. In its 25th year, the Mancini Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre in Beaver, Butler, and Lawrence Counties and are a participant in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. The Bear Quartet of The Gifted Music School in Salt Lake City, Utah will appear on an upcoming episode of From the Top, the hit NPR radio program featuring America's best young classical musicians. The show will air on Classical 89, Saturday April 27 at 11 AM and by podcast at fromthetop.org beginning April 22. The broadcast features performances and interviews with outstanding young musicians and Guest Host Peter Dugan. The show was taped at the Hollywood Scoring Studio in Los Angeles on February 24, as part of a three-day From the Top residency, comprised of creative music making, career development, and community engagement, designed to enrich both personal and artistic growth for thirteen young musicians from throughout the country.

Producers Anita Greenspan and Tony Hawk with Executive producer Adam Zotovich announced today that a new musical adaptation of the 2007 Nick Hornby novel, SLAM, is in development. This new project will feature a book by Tony Award Nominee Kyle Jarrow (SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical) with music and lyrics by Mark Mothersbaugh (prolific film composer, co-founder of new wave band Devo). Pro-skater Tony Hawk, who is featured as a character in the novel, is a producer on the project and is slated to develop skate choreography.
ArtsBridge and the Georgia Lottery teamed up for the HOPE Jingle Contest. To enter, accredited Georgia High School Musical Theatre and Dramatic Arts Programs were invited to perform a creative version of the "HOPE Jingle" and submit a video of themselves performing it in their own unique way. Ten semi-finalists were selected by a panel of judges. Then the public cast more than 66,000 votes to help choose five winners who will be awarded additional funds for their theatre departments by the Georgia Lottery.
