Battleground Productions presents "Christmastown," Wayne Rawley's hard-bitten holiday noir. In the city where it's always Christmas Eve, detective Nick Holiday investigates some seasonal shenanigans involving tough-talking elves, bruiser reindeer and a strangely silent toy...
Dear Readers, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad production of “Ragtime” and the current production at Village Theatre is no exception. That’s not to say it’s bullet proof, I’m sure a bad production has existed somewhere out there, but as long as you understand the heart of the show a…
'This above all: to thine own self be true.' There have been dozens (maybe hundreds) of Shakespearean adaptations in Seattle in recent years, and it’s become rarer to see classic versions of source material. Ironically, a tried and true Hamlet, currently playing at Union Arts Center, feels refr…
This dazzling expertly executed program with its magnificent scores provided an intriguing foretaste of what is sure to be an exhilarating season to come…
Dear Readers, I don’t mean to make anyone feel ancient but “A Chorus Line” is 51 years old! And the 5th Avenue Theatre dusting off the old girl for their current remount may feel like a bit of nostalgia. But if their spectacular production proves anything, it’s that “A Chorus Line” is …

Dear Readers, shows about overcoming adversity are not a new thing. It’s pretty much a staple of many storylines. But what has been coming up more and more are the shows about overcoming a physical adversity. Of course there’s one of my favorites, “Hairspray” dealing with racism and body …
Alicia Keys can write the hell out of a song. Her catalog has been the soundtrack to heartbreaks and first loves for more than two decades. Hell's Kitchen, the Grammy winner's semi-autobiographical musical now at the Paramount Theatre, is a welcome reminder of just how singular her music really is. …
William Shakespeare’s work, undoubtedly, is an acquired taste. Shakespeare’s poetry of language can turn people off (the Elizabethan language can be hard to follow). Would you believe me if I told you that one way to make his work more approachable is by folding in layers of randomness and cha…
