Fussy Cloud Puppet Slam Volume 28: What in Gay Hell?! at Theatre off Jackson

Dust off your bedazzled crucifix, clutch your pearls, and prepare for a flaming descent into puppet heresy with Fussy Cloud Puppet Slam. We’re back-louder, gayer, and more sacrilegious than ever with Volume 28: What in Gay Hell? Volume 28 is a very special two-night queer-as-hell religious parody with puppets, drag, shadow theatre, and just a pinch of damnation. Come witness the sacred, profane, and occasional blasphemous joy.

Night One - Friday, July 18th is our classic slam-style variety show, featuring an unholy chorus of queer and allied artists presenting short-form acts who are ready to exorcise their demons with puppetry. Among our escaped hellions are Miss Ruby Ross, Scary-Ann, Jawbone Puppet Theater, Treasure Trove, Mikki Ulaszewsk, Cat Aceto, and Miss Texas 1988. Expect sinners, saints, and puppets that are definitely going to Hell. But wait—there’s more damnation!

Night Two - Saturday, July 19th features two full-length puppet spectaculars ready to snatch your soul and your wig:

• “UNRAVELING” - By Shadow Girls Cult. A cinematic shadow puppet experience that blurs the line between the sacred and the surreal. It weaves together poignant tales that encompass longing, loneliness, identity, grief, and the queer experience through a surreal lens. The show is performed entirely live with two performers and incorporates 3 overhead projectors, over 200 shadow puppets, shadow masks, live animation techniques, human silhouettes, & liquid light techniques to create haunting dreamscapes.

• “Church of the Auntie Christ” - Welcome to church! This glam gospel tale stars local drag weirdo Miss Texas 1988 as a mixed-up Christian woman who winds up in a "church" of queers, choir leaders, and peculiar sunday-school students. Come for the communion, stay for the homoeroticism. The Church of the Auntie Christ returns… again!
