Seattle Opera's production of Wagner's Ring is now underway. During this summer's busy preparations, they've been documenting the process of putting an opera onstage through various videos. For a backstage glimpse at how it all comes together, check these out!

This exciting backstage video covers all aspects of pre-production for Wagner's epic opera. The final installment, featuring the talented orchestra and chorus, was released on Seattle Opera's website today. Past segments have taken you to staging rehearsals, shown you what goes into costume creation, given you a look at the sets and props seen onstage, and revealed some of the stage magic behind the special effects. The Ring through a Newcomer's Eyes

Unfamiliar with the Ring? We've got the perfect introductory series for you! In "Confessions of a First-Time Operagoer," Seattle Opera has been documenting host Cassidy Quinn Brettler's crash-course in Wagner's epic. The complete documentary will be available in September, but until then, you can keep up with Cassidy in these short videos and blog posts, where she describes her experiences "swimming" like a Rhine Daughter, controlling Brünnhilde's fire, dressing like a Valkyrie, and interviewing artists.

Caption of the Day Contest

You don't have to know anything about the Ring to participate in Seattle Opera's Caption of the Day Contest. We'll post a new photo on our blog every day during the Ring, and we want you to create your best caption. Each photo is from our current production of the Ring, but we're not looking for a plot synopsis—we want to know what other crazy things you see going on in the picture!

Each day we'll pick a winner—who gets a t-shirt that's only available to caption contest winners, and not for sale in the gift shop—and we'll announce the winning caption the following morning, along with the new daily snapshot.
