SOTTO VOCE Will Come to Tacoma Little Theatre

Tacoma Little Theatre will continue its 2025-2026 Season with Katori Hall's Olivier Award-winning The Mountaintop. This production is an intimate reimagining that weaves historical fact with surrealist fantasy to show us Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's final night in Memphis's Lorraine Motel.

Nilo Cruz's Sotto Voce is a poetic exploration of memory, loss, and the enduring power of love. Saquiel, a young Cuban man obsessed with the M.S. St. Louis—a ship of Jewish refugees turned away from American shores in 1939—seeks out Bemadette Kahn, an aging German-born writer who lost her lover in that tragic voyage. As they form an unconventional bond through phone calls and imagined conversations, Bemadette confronts long-buried grief. Through poetic language and magical realism, Sotto Voce intertwines past and present, exile and longing, and the lingering weight of history.

Tacoma Little Theatre's production of Sotto Voce features the talents of Sharry O'Hare as Bemadette Kahn, John Pedro as Saquiel Rafaeli, and Valeria Sanchez-Jimenez as Lucila Pulpo.

The production team features: Maria Valenzuela (Director), Kaylie Holcomb (Stage Manager), Blake R. York (Scenic and Projection Design), Michele Graves (Costume Design), Madeleine Arnold (Props Design), Alonna Hall (Lighting Design), and Chandler Garry (Sound Design).

Sotto Voce will run Friday, June 5, through Sunday, June 21, 2026, for a total of 11 performances.  Evening showings are at 7:30pm and matinees are at 2:00pm, please check the website for exact dates.

There will be a special “Pay What You Can” performance on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 7:30pm.  Tickets for that performance are available now online, in person, or over the phone.
