You Come from a Long Line of Shallow People is a comedic solo show written and performed by Joanne Green. The show follows Green's relationship with her mother, who passed away in April 2023, exploring the complex, tumultuous, and painful dynamic between mothers and daughters. Green was driven to write the piece after losing her mother and feeling shocked by the depth of sadness she felt, seeking to find the places where her mother had loved her but she had refused to notice. The show celebrates her mother's sense of style, humor, intelligence, and deep desire for her children to be happy, while also examining the regrets and resentments that can exist between a mother and daughter for a lifetime.
