Joanne Green Will Bring Solo Comedy YOU COME FROM A LONG LINE OF SHALLOW PEOPLE to Edinburgh Fringe

Performer and writer Joanne Green will bring her comedic solo show You Come from a Long Line of Shallow People to Edinburgh Fringe this August.

You Come from a Long Line of Shallow People follows Green's relationship with her mother, who passed away in April 2023, exploring the often complex, tumultuous and even painful dynamic between mothers and daughters. She was driven to write the show after losing her mother and feeling shocked by the depth of sadness she felt.

Speaking about the show, Green states her mother was 'hilarious, generous, beautiful, brilliant and brutal right up to the end of her almost 95 year old life. I loved my mom but I never let her know that and I'm actually not sure I ever let myself really feel it. We never got along and we never really liked each other.' On a mission to 'find the places where my mom had loved me but I refused to notice,' Green was driven to write You Come from a Long Line of Shallow People as a way to celebrate her mother, 'her fabulous sense of style, her humor, intelligence, her rage, and, however masked by her own demons, her deep desire to have her kids be substantial and happy human beings.'

Further exploring the relationship between mother and daughter, Green was inspired to bring her own show to Edinburgh Fringe, following her daughter Olivia Levine's success in 2024. As she puts it, 'I'm literally following in my daughter's footsteps!'

Audiences can expect a brave, funny, unpredictable and heartfelt show, shining a light on the depth and warmth but also the regrets and resentments that can exist between a mother and daughter for a lifetime.

You Come from a Long Line of Shallow People is performing at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 6th - 30th (not 18th) August at 13.20pm (55 mins), Just The Attic at Just The Tonic at The Mash House (venue number 288).
