Hear vocal works celebrating countries and cultures around the world when 200 students, ages 10-17, from the National Children's Chorus of the United States launch their United Kingdom tour with a concert in Edinburgh. The program includes the United Kingdom premieres of “Diya Jalein” by Gaayatri Kaundinya – set in Hindi and celebrating Diwali – and the beloved Spanish-language lullaby “A La Nanita Nana” by Carlos Cordero.
The National Children’s Chorus of the U.S. captured international attention when they joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic & Gustavo Dudamel on the GRAMMY winning album (best choral performance) Mahler: Symphony No. 8. This season their concerts have included performances at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and their sold-out solo debut at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Through the 2023 U.K. tour, the U.S. students gain the experience of performing on some of the U.K.’s top stages, and will have the opportunity to connect with, learn from, and even perform with incredible choral artists in U.K. In London, for example, NCC students will take a masterclass from and perform with VOCES8 and then will record an album at the historic Abbey Road Studios.
NCC students receive vocal training in one of seven U.S. chapter cities (New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, Boston and Chicago), learning the same repertoire and breath marks. Through NCC, young choir members find their voices as artists and as citizens in a supportive environment that challenges them to reach their highest standard.
