An insufferable Hollywood agent and his assistant embark on a tumultuous journey aboard a failing speedboat.

Joseph, an abrasive, pushing-40 talent agent, is awoken in the middle of the night by a call from his top billing client. She's on Catalina Island for a photoshoot without any of her wardrobe or glam. He arrives at the Lido Dry Stacks ready to set sail, waiting on one last thing: his assistant Fiona.

Fiona and Joseph set sail on an odyssey full of obstacles that challenge their already fragile relationship. Deckhand is a comedic look at the divide between agent and assistant, focused around two careerists of different generations, genders, and social stratification — examining the deepening divide between employer and employee. A two-person comedy. One failing speedboat.

From director Wylie Anderson, whose recent films include Thanks For Having Me, which premiered at the Palm Springs Shortsfest, and How to Cry on Command, Deckhand is another of her poignant satires of the trials and tribulations of female anxiety.

First performed as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival in June 2025 to sold-out audiences, Deckhand's success caught the attention of the prestigious Upright Citizens Brigade, leading to a limited run on their LA Mainstage. Now Deckhand lands in Edinburgh with the original cast and crew, ready to deliver the same magic and chaos that captivated LA audiences.
