Argonauts at ZOO (Playground 2), High School Yard, Edinburgh

Argonauts is a world premiere tragicomedy from Brazilian company Technis, written and directed by Thiago Richter, whose work was selected for the Royal Court Theatre's Lusophone Callout. The play follows Liz and Sam, hosts of a theatre podcast, whose argument about a radical new production causes reality to fracture, bringing figures such as Medea, Antigone, Hecuba, Goneril, and Prospero into the present as bold contemporary reimaginings. The production draws on techniques developed under the mentorship of Antunes Filho at Brazil's Centro de Pesquisa Teatral, reimagining the premise of Yasmina Reza's Art for the digital age. The play explores the clash between criticism and creation, reason and emotion, and asks why theatre continues to matter in a chaotic world.
