Albatross, written by George Devine and Bruntwood Prize winner Martha Loader and directed by Patrick Morris, is a new play rooted in two years of research and interviews with Antarctic researchers. The play follows glaciologist Alice (Caroline Rippin) and her mother Eve (Agnes Lillis), who cares for Alice's daughter Alba while Alice works in Antarctica combating climate catastrophe. When Alice returns home unexpectedly in the night, she is confronted with floods, unexpected romance, and unspoken secrets that test the bonds between generations. Commissioned by Menagerie Theatre, the play examines what one generation owes the next, exploring the intersection of family dynamics and the climate emergency.
