La Cage Aux Folles is a musical set in a drag club in St Tropez. Twenty four year old Jean-Michele has been raised by Georges and his partner Albin who also goes by the alter ego Zaza. After announcing his engagement to the daughter of a renowned "family values" man who is determined to close down every transvestite club in the area, Jean-Michele tries to hide the truth about his unconventional family from his future in-laws.

Adrian Zmed plays Georges, the owner of the club and biological father of Jean-Michele. While a lot of the appeal of La Cage is the glitz and glamour, Zmed is the backbone of the production delivering a solid and heartfelt performance.

Now, lets talk about John Partridge as Zaza. If ever there was a man born to play this role it is Partridge. From his stunning vocals and excellent comedic timing to breaking hearts during the more moving scenes- he has it all covered. With thunderous applause at his Act One closer "I Am What I Am" it was clear that he had the audience eating out of his fabulous hand.

Although the production is over 30 years old it feels incredibly fresh and has some fantastic one liners. Gary McCann's costume and set design is every bit as glitzy as you would hope and makes the production quite the spectacle. I would challenge you to find a more emotional, hilarious and sparkly night out in Glasgow this week!

La Cage Aux Folles is at the King's Theatre, Glasgow until Saturday 29th July.
