Orpheus Descending is a play by Tennessee Williams, directed by Will Detlefsen. A charismatic drifter arrives in a small southern town where his presence awakens desires for love, justice, and self-determination amid a community shaped by prejudice and moral control, sparking devastating consequences. Born of the Southern Gothic tradition, Williams reimagines the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice as a fever dream of America, where the promise of freedom is received not as a refuge but as a threat.
