First staged 26 years ago, and originally commissioned by the Eureka Theatre in San Francisco while Taccone was serving as artistic director, this fierce and astounding two-part drama is at once an epic exploration of American politics, gay identity, and mythology, and a personal story of love and loyalty. In today's sociopolitical climate, Kushner's universal message of compassion and inclusion makes Angels in America as timely as ever.

Opening the season with a play commissioned and developed by the Playhouse, You Mean to Do Me Harm by Christopher Chen, the company strengthens its commitment to new voices in theatre. The Playhouse's three-play Sandbox Series devoted to developing new works will be announced at a later date.

Troupe Vertigo, a Los Angeles-based circus-dance-theater company whose spellbinding performances ignite the imagination, joins the San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) in the San Francisco Premiere of Tableaux. Directed and choreographed by Aloysia Gavre and produced by Rex Camphuis-the wife and husband team who co-founded Troupe Vertigo in 2009-Tableaux incorporates an all-female cast of contortionists, dancers, and acrobats whose vertical landscapes challenge audiences with the meaning of confinement and freedom as the artists explore societal controversies through movement.
