PlayGround caps off its twenty-fourth season with Best of PlayGround 22, opening with a press night on May 12 (previews May 10 & 11) running May 10-27, 2018 at Potrero Stage. This fully-produced showcase of the best new playwrights and short plays have been selected from more than 150 submissions and 36 works developed as part of the season's Monday Night PlayGround staged reading series. Noteworthy director/performers Margo Hall, Becca Wolff, Soren Oliver, Jim Kleinmann, Katja Rivera, and Jenny McAllister join in to direct the Best of PlayGround 22 short plays.
SFCM Announces $46.4 Million Gift For New Building: Ute And William K Bowes, Jr. Center For Performing Arts

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) announces the expansion of its campus and the construction of the Ute and William K. Bowes, Jr. Center for Performing Arts (The Bowes Center) in San Francisco's Civic Center. The $185 million performing arts center and residential tower will be located at 200 Van Ness Avenue and construction will begin in the summer of 2018. The opening of the new building is slated for the fall of 2020 when it will welcome its first class of residents to a facility that will transform students through the study of music at the highest level. The name of the building is in honor and recognition of a financial gift of $46.4 million from the William K. Bowes, Jr. Foundation, which is the largest single gift ever made to a conservatory or music school for a new facility. To date, $96 million has been raised toward a fundraising goal of $110 million. The existing SFCM building at 50 Oak Street will remain in active use through the construction of the new building and after it is completed.
Luther Burbank Center for the Arts' Annual Music for Schools Celebration Returns Saturday, May 12

Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (LBC) announced today it will host its annual Music for Schools celebration on Saturday, May 12 between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., featuring performances by more than 215 youth from local schools who are supported by LBC's instrument lending library, the only program of its kind in the Bay Area and one of the few in the country. The popular free outdoor concerts are one of the highlights of the spring events at the Montgomery Village Shopping Center (911 Village Court, Santa Rosa).

The Marsh Berkeley announces the extension through June 16, 2018 of hit show The Mushroom Cure by Adam Strauss. Inspired by a scientific study that hallucinogenic mushrooms may cure obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Strauss embarked on a program of vigilante psychopharmacology. The true tale of Strauss' hilarious, harrowing, and heartrending attempts to treat his debilitating OCD with psychedelics was an Off-Broadway hit, where it was named Critics' Pick by Time Out New York, which praised it as "riveting… true-life tour de force" and hailed by The New York Times as "mining a great deal of laughter from disabling pain." The invitation-only event begins with select graduating students from the M.F.A. and B.F.A. programs presenting their work to industry professionals. The programs include: fashion design, textile design, knitwear design, 3D design and pattern making, costume design, journalism, styling, product development, visual merchandising, fashion merchandising, and fashion marketing. The fashion show portion of the event will include womenswear, menswear and childswear collections; several of the collections were created through collaboration by students within the fashion, knitwear and textile design programs.

In order to pay the bills we rely on fundraising. About 50% of our annual budget comes from fundraising, and most of that comes from individual donors and not businesses or grants. One of the most fun things we do to raise money is hold a heck of a party once a year!

This Central Works Method play is a "revenge comedy" - based on a Greek tragedy, turned into a contemporary comedy.
