For the fourth show of our 113th season, The Players at Barker is proud to present Lorraine Hansberrys immortal classic, A Raisin in the Sun, which tells timeless story of the Younger family, Walter Lee and his wife Ruth, mother Lena and sister Beneatha. After the death of Lenas husband, the family waits for his life insurance to come, but there exists tension over what to do with the money. Walter wants to start his own business, but his mother wants to put a down payment on a house. Hansberrys deft handling of issues of race and class, and her powerful depiction of the monumental struggle to maintain ones dignity in the face of overwhelming reactionary forces fueled by ignorance and hate has rightly secured A Raisin in the Suns place of honor in the pantheon of American theater.
