A dramatic encounter between a man and woman who were once bound by a great love which the man paid for by several years in prison. What connects them today? The play raises alarming questions. Can real love exist between an adult man and a girl on the cusp of womanhood? Blackbird is Harrower’s second play, and one that conquered the globe. Following its world premiere at the 2005 Edinburgh Festival, it was staged in London’s West End, received the Laurence Olivier Award for the best play of 2007, and then was produced in New York. To date, the work has been performed in more than forty productions worldwide. In 2008 several critics branded the play the most frequently discussed in the English-speaking world.
