David Lindsay-Abaire's whimsically dark, edge-of-your-seat comedy, Fuddy Meers, is live on this October at the Newport Performing Arts Center—courtesy of Red Octopus Theatre Company.

The stage begins dark and mostly empty…much like the brain of the lead character. Claire’s rare form of amnesia causes her to forget the events of each day when she falls asleep, leaving her with a deliciously blank slate every morning. “Claire’s loss is our gain,” says director Cody Larsen, “giving us the highly entertaining opportunity to discover who she is, moment by moment, right along with her.”

“It’s a rollercoaster ride of a show,” said Darcy Lawrence, board member at Red Octopus Theatre Company, “At first blush it appears to be a farce, but throughout the evening a darker underbelly is revealed. As each beautifully odd character is introduced, the cacophony of chaos grows – leading to an ending you won’t see coming. It’s definitely not your run-of-the-mill comedy. This show has bite.”

The fully-staged production features an all-star cast of local talent, including Caity Showalter, Scott Ganyo, Annie Pusey, Alex Herd, Gary Herd, Cody Larsen, and Mandy Carter, and is more appropriate for audiences over the age of 15, approximately. (Additional content and age appropriateness information can be found by visiting www.octopusonstage.com).

“It definitely keeps you guessing,” said Larsen, “Where you end up is not at all where you started—and that is exactly what I love about it.”

Fuddy Meers begins at 7pm every Friday and Saturday night from October 14-30, 2022, in the state-of-the-art Alice Silverman Theatre at the Newport Performing Arts Center. There are also two Sunday matinees, at 2pm on October 23 and 30, and one Thursday night performance on October 27 at 7pm. Cast and Creative team for Fuddy Meers at Newport Performing Arts Center

Cast

Caity Showalter

Claire
Caity Showalter has been a Newport resident for ten years, and has been happily involved with the theater here for six. She has been in productions of Avenue Q, Little Shop of Horrors, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She is thrilled to be back onstage with such a wonderful team of creators, and has missed the stage dearly!

Cody Larsen

Richard
Cody is a native of the Oregon Coast. Several of his most recent roles include Sancho Panza in Man of La Mancha (2019), Puck in Midsummer Night’s Dream (2018) and Uncle Fester in The Addams Family Musical (2017). Cody is regularly harassed by his chihuahua, Henry.

Alex Herd

Kenny
Alexander Herd is a sixteen-year-old actor from here -- the Oregon coast. He has performed in theatrical and dramatic arts for five years at the Newport Performing Arts Center. He strives to become a famous Hollywood actor and well-known on the big screen. He recently studied at the LA School of Creative and Performing Arts summer camp. Over the years of theatre, he has done many shows including The Addams Family the Musical, Beauty and the Beast, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Cinderella, and On Golden Pond. Alexander also enjoys sketching, tap dancing, playing the trumpet, and creating music. He is a well-rounded individual.

Scott Ganyo

Limping Man
Scott Ganyo has performed on stage and screen throughout his life and across the country. Some of his best-known appearances include improv at Comedy Sportz, "1000 Ways To Die", and "The Dark Knight"; but he loves musicals ("The Scarlet Pimpernel”, "You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, "Damn Yankees") and producing indie films. Scott was most recently seen at Theatre West in Marjorie Prime and is now thrilled to perform in Fuddy Meers for Red Octopus and the Newport Performing Arts Center. New to the Oregon coast by way of Los Angeles, Scott thanks the local theatre community and its fans for such a warm welcome - and very special thanks to his wife and family for so patiently supporting his theatrical playdates all these years!

Annie Pusey

Gertie
Annie says thanks to Red Octopus for casting her in this wonderfully quirky show! She has always loved theatre and has performed in many shows in the Eugene area and recently the coast. Some of her favorites are Quilters the Musical and Good People which was written by the playwright who wrote Fuddy Meers. Thanks also to her great cast and crew! You guys are the best!

Gary Herd

Millet / Hinky Binky
Gary Herd is a "Newbie" actor in the Newport area, as he got back to the stage 4 years ago, after his last performance in 1993. Herd has been involved with the beautiful 4 part Barbershop harmony for over 25 years; so performing on stage has never left his heart. Gary is a mural painter and a YouTube woodworker (a.k.a. The BeardedWoodworker). He has used these talents on every show he's been involved with building sets, here at the PAC. It also gave him enough recognition to get him on the NBC network show, "Making It", which he calls one of his biggest accomplishments.

Miranda Richman Carter

Heidi
Miranda has graced the Newport Performing Arts stages for nearly a decade and is so glad we can gather again to share our love of the arts. Previous productions include 24 Hour Theater, "Avenue Q", and Milo Graamans' original show, "She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not." She thanks her biggest fans, her son Orion and husband Chris.
