The work of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning composer Jonathan Larson returns to Portland Center Stage after a 7-week run of his blockbuster musical Rent. Larson's autobiographical musical tick, tick … BOOM! was written before Rent and is in many ways its origin story. Featuring a similarly rocking score, it offers a backstage tour of the love and sweat Larson put into making his Broadway musical dreams a reality.
After triumphant appearances in some of Portland Center Stage's most popular holiday productions, actor Isaac Lamb returns to PCS to helm a new and altogether different kind of seasonal offering, The Bells That Still Can Ring.
Portland Center Stage at The Armory will kick off the new year with the Tony Award-winning rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, starring Delphon Curtis Jr. as Hedwig and Ithica Tell as Yitzhak. Brilliantly innovative, this genre-bending, fourth-wall-smashing musical sensation tells the story of Hedwig, a German emigrant, who is out to set the record straight about her life, her loves, and the operation that left her with that a?oeangry inch.a??
Regina Taylor's CROWNS, now playing at Portland Playhouse is a jubilant musical that mixes gospel, jazz, and a little bit of hip hop into a celebration of sisterhood, self-expression, and, most importantly, fabulous hats.
Portland Playhouse is at 602 NE Prescott St, Portland, OR 97211, Portland, Oregon.
Portland Playhouse’s mission is to celebrate the complexity of the human experience. We bring the magic of theatre to a greater number of schools each year, providing young people with experiences that empower them with life skills they will value for the rest of their lives. The past twelve years have changed Portland Playhouse, and the people behind it, irrevocably. With gratitude to our neighbors, and with humility for the support they have shown to us, we rededicate ourselves to making the Portland community, and our neighborhood specifically, richer for having the arts in their midst.
