The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a heartwarming and hysterical Tony Award-winning musical comedy that proves being a kid isn’t as easy as A-B-C. Six delightfully awkward middle schoolers—played by an equally fearless cast of adults—compete for the coveted title of County Spelling Bee Champion under the watchful eyes of their equally quirky grown-ups.
Through witty songs, laugh-out-loud humor, and moments of genuine emotion, this fast-paced and unpredictable show captures the joy, pressure, and pure chaos of growing up. And with audience participation built right into the competition, every performance is a one-of-a-kind experience!
At TheaterWorks, the fun begins before you even take your seat. Audiences are invited to step into the halls of Putnam Valley Middle School, where the lobby has been transformed into a fully immersive world filled with school spirit, interactive surprises, and a few familiar “students” roaming the halls.
