Sonoran Desert Chorale Announces To Everything There Is A Season

The Sonoran Desert Chorale announces the first concert of their 24th season. The concert, titled To Everything There Is a Season, reflects the gifts of all the seasons of life.  Pete Seeger's immortal folk ballad, Turn, Turn, Turn is the perfect framework for this first concert. It brings audiences the works of contemporary composers like Ola Gjeilo, Jake Runestad, and Kim Andre Arneson whose music contemplates loss and life's storms as well as evoking moments of joy and peace.   Performances of To Everything There Is a Season will take place Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 7:30 P.M. at First United Methodist Church, 15 E. First Avenue, Mesa and Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. at La Casa De Cristo Lutheran Church, 6300 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale.  Season and single performance tickets are now on sale.

Mesa Encore Theatre is opening its 81st season with the seductive musical, Chicago! Set in the roaring '20s in Chicago, this sharp-edged satire from Kander and Ebb features a dazzling score that sparked original staging by Bob Fosse. The story, still relevant today, explores how the media manipulates the public's fascination with murderers, turning them into celebrities. The original Broadway production received ten Tony nominations in 1976, and includes songs like "All That Jazz," "Roxie" and "Cell Block Tango" to name a few.

Twenty-six actors, six directors, four stage managers, and more creatives have been hired for The Bechdel Test Fest, September 9th & 10th, co-produced by The Bridge Initiative: Women in Theatre and Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway,Tempe AZ 85281. The two-day festival prominently features play readings from Arizona playwrights, but also includes screenings of films from Arizona filmmakers, as well as discussions and workshops.

Our new theater education program is designed for everyone with special needs, from students who love theater, to seniors looking for a fun, new adventure! The AdaptiveWorks program will provide genuine theatrical experiences to people with both mental and physical disabilities. AdaptiveWorks actors will experience a theatrical production from start to finish - from the audition process to the rehearsal process, and finally, to two performances which will be open to the public. Actors will be able to explore their creativity and talents outside the confines of everyday life. Through the AdaptiveWorks theater program, youth and adults ages 12 and up of all abilities will experience an enjoyable, creative, therapeutic activity while gaining personal growth, empowerment, and building important life skills.
