Based on recent newspaper headlines and a Supreme Court case, The Cake (2015) by Bekah Brunstetter, tells the story of Della, a renowned North Carolina baker, who declines to bake a wedding cake for her best friend’s daughter who is to marry another woman.
Della is forced to examine her deeply held beliefs as they come into conflict with ideas in a changing world. The play explores family, faith and acceptance using humor along the way.
Bekah Brunstetter is an American playwright who is also known for her writing on the hit television show This is Us.
