Over the past two weeks, the brand new Birdland Theater has been the place for some very special #friendsandfamily concerts, to prepare for this opening week, starring Lucie Arnaz. The space has a new stage, new sound and lights, new kitchen, new menu and a few new staffers, but the nine unadvertised shows went without a hitch.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly Open Mic Night that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night at 9:30pm. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. On Monday, December 29, the Broadway at Birdland concert stage was the place singer/actor Erich Bergen chose to celebrate his 29th birthday with not one, but two sold-out concerts. Best known for his performance as Bob Gaudio in the Clint Eastwood film 'Jersey Boys,' and the current hit CBS drama 'Madam Secretary,' Erich brought his dry wit, smooth vocals, ten piece band, three background singers and two-toned shoes to the Birdland stage, featuring songs from his stage and screen career, and material from his two EP releases.

On Monday, April 14, the Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present Tony and Drama Desk Award nominated songwriter Amanda Green and her Broadway friends in 'Amanda Green's Spring Trunk Show'. The musical event was a celebration of Green's trunkful of songs that were cut on their way to opening nights of Hands on a Hardbody, Bring It On, High Fidelity, and more. The cast included Kathleen Monteleone, Jenn Colella,Greg Naughton, Janet Krupin, Jay Armstrong Johnson, and Ryann Redmond. The musical director for the show wasMatt Gallagher.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud present the premiere of Donna McKechnie's new Talk/Variety show just last week. Tony-winning choreographer/director Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots) was Donna's Very Special Guest for the evening, with singers Nick Adams and Nikki MacCallum singing songs from Mitchell's hit shows. Donna and Jerry discussed life, love, careers and even ended the evening with a good, old-fashioned soft-shoe, after Mitchell demonstrated his most successful audition tune, 'I Love A Piano!'

The Swing Set, a new album from six-time MAC Award winner Jim Caruso, was released on January 11th. This is Caruso's sophomore album, and his first release under the Yellow Sound Label.
Recently, Broadway favorite - and Caruso fan - Stephanie J. Block (9 to 5, The Pirate Queen, Wicked, The Boy From Oz) spoke with Caruso about creating the album, for which she recorded a guest spot.
