National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) presents the limited engagement of The Sorceress (Di Kishefmakherin). Inspired by last season's critically-acclaimed revival of Joseph Rumshinsky's The Golden Bride, another lost operetta of the Yiddish Theatre canon, The Sorceress will be the first piece brought to life under NYTF's new Global Yiddish Theatre Restoration Project. Directed by NYTF Associate Artistic Director, Drama Desk Award-nominee Motl Didner, with music direction by NYTF Artistic Director Zalmen Mlotek, The Sorceress will be presented as a work-in-development, performed in Yiddish with English and Russian translation supertitles, for 5 performances only, running Monday, December 25, 2017 through Monday, January 1, 2018 in the Edmond J. Safra Hall at the Museum of Jewish Heritage (36 Battery Place).

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) announces the formalized creation of an Artistic Council, comprised of renowned theater artists and producers who will work closely with NYTF CEO Christopher Massimine and NYTF Artistic Director Zalmen Mlotek to help steer and advise on the company's programming. The 103-year-old National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, in residence at the Museum of Jewish Heritage (36 Battery Pl., NYC, 10280), has a unique place in Theatre History as the last-standing of the professional Yiddish Theatres of the Golden Age of 2nd Avenue.

At a plenary session today, participants in the first Immigration Arts Summit, conceived and hosted by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene at the Museum of Jewish Heritage on Monday and Tuesday, agreed to formally organize as an Immigrant Arts Coalition, a network of arts organizations and individual artists that produce ethnic-based art from other cultures for New York audiences. 103 seasons and going strong - and not just because of nostalgia. The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene has reimagined 'Amerike - The Golden Land', the 1984 musical by Zalmen Mlotek and Moishe Rosenfeld, appropriately running near Ellis Island. Weaving incredible stories with fantastic songs, multimedia and choreography, the show creates a dynamic portrayal of the Jewish people who immigrated to the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, much like my own grandparents.
