Prominent figures from the arts, politics, human rights, social justice, the media, and academia gathered for a continuous reading of Nobel Peace laureate Elie Wiesel's seismic Holocaust memoir, 'Night,' at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, on Sunday, January 29, 2017. The all-day 'Night' event took place in front of an overflow audience at the Museum. You can watch footage of the entire event, produced by Folksbiene executive producer Christopher Massimine (edited to 4:30 hours), below!

'Soul to Soul' Concert Celebrates Jewish-Black Solidarity Sunday

The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF), in association with hip-hop icon Russell Simmons and Rabbi Marc Schneier, presents a cross-cultural exploration of African-American and Yiddish music at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, on Sunday January 15 at 2pm. Conceived and directed by NYTF Artistic Director Zalmen Mlotek, the popular concert commemorates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2017.

On Sunday, January 29, 2017, the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust joins with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene to honor the memory of Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel, who died on July 2, 2016, by presenting a community reading of his landmark memoir NIGHT, which tells of his experience in German concentration camps with his father during the Holocaust.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT Concert of Re-Discovered Yiddish Theater Songs Announces Schedule Changes

The performance schedule has been changed for 'Light Up The Night,' a theatrical concert of rediscovered and restored Yiddish theater songs by Ellstein, Goldfaden, Olshanetsky, Rumshinsky, and Secunda, to be presented by National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) January 1 in Edmond J. Safra Hall at Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, Manhattan.  Originally two shows were planned, at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.  The 2:00 PM performance continues as scheduled but the 6:00 PM performance has been canceled.

Folksbienne Theater Welcomes Hannuakh with KIDS & YIDDISH

To renew a cherished Hannukah tradition, National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) will present 'Kids & Yiddish,' a musical theatrical funfest that teaches Yiddish to kids primarily through songs and song parodies. The show gleefully mixes Jewish folk traditions with popular culture and satirizes some of the latest fads on TV, all the while cleverly weaving in Yiddish words and phrases.

Bryna Wasserman officially stepped down as executive director of The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) last night at a lavish gala concert and dinner honoring Golden Globe nominee and Tony winner Liev Schreiber.  The 'Golden Gala' at the Museum of Jewish Heritage featured a concert starring a line-up of young performers with dazzling voices, including three stars of the Drama Desk-nominated musical, 'The Golden Bride,' Rachel Policar, Cameron Johnson and Adam B. Shapiro. They were joined by two superlative young singers, Grace Field and Daniel Greenwood.  Folksbiene's artistic director Zalmen Mlotek led a 16-piece orchestra.

Folksbiene Honors Liev Schreiber Tonight!

The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) honors Golden Globe nominee and Tony Award winner Liev Schreiber at its 'Golden Gala' at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, tonight, on Monday, December 12th, 7pm.

Folksbiene's LIGHT UP THE NIGHT: a Concert of Yiddish Theater Composers

 To ring in the New Year, on January 1 National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) will present 'Light Up The Night,' a concert of rediscovered and restored pre- and post-WWII music from the theatrical works of the great composers of the Golden Age of Yiddish Theater.  These include Ellstein, Goldfaden, Olshanetsky, Rumshinsky and Secunda.  All are leading songwriters from the era of 'The Golden Bride,' which was presented by Folksbiene Theatre in 2015 and 2016.  The cast will feature performers who were acclaimed in that production, backed by a 16-piece orchestra.  The production is in Yiddish with projected supertitles.  The full concert will be offered twice, at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, in Edmond J. Safra Hall at Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place.

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene Will Honor Liev Schreiber at 'Golden Gala'

Golden Globe nominee and Tony Award winner Liev Schreiber will be honored at the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene [NYTF] Golden Gala at the Museum of Jewish Heritage on Monday, December 12th, 7pm. Schreiber is currently in New York City and can be seen playing the lead role of Le Vicomte de Valmont in Les Liaisons Dangereuses on Broadway through January 22, 2017.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA Star Joins Cast of Off-Broadway's THE GOLDEN BRIDE

Rachel Zatcoff (coming directly from a run as Christine in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway) has joined the cast of THE GOLDEN BRIDE (Di Goldene Kale), which returns for a limited Off-Broadway engagement beginning July 4th. As originally presented by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene [NYTF] in December of 2015, the production was nominated for 2 Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Revival of a Musical. Featuring a cast of 20 and an orchestra of 14, this rare glimpse back into musical theater history will run through August 28 at The Museum of Jewish Heritage's Edmond J. Safra Hall.

Folksbiene's 2nd Annual KULTURFEST Launches in June

The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) presents KulturfestNYC, the international festival of Jewish performing arts, that attracted 50K+ attendees in one week in its June 2015 inaugural year, and this year returns for three months, from June 6 to August 29.  With over three-dozen separate events in venues across the city, the summer-long festival welcomes artists and groups from France, Romania, Japan, Israel, Russia and the U.S.

In its robust 101st season, National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene is the longest consecutively producing Yiddish theater company in the world.
