The Off-Broadway musical 'Amerike - The Golden Land' wraps up its seven-week run on Sunday, August 20.

Four-time Drama Desk Award nominated director Bryna Wasserman, currently represented Off-Broadway with the revival of Amerike-The Golden Land, is set to helm the staged reading of Canadian playwright Ben Gonshor's When Blood Ran Red, today, August 3rd, 3pm, at the Workshop Theater.

At a plenary session today, participants in the first Immigration Arts Summit, conceived and hosted by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene at the Museum of Jewish Heritage on Monday and Tuesday, agreed to formally organize as an Immigrant Arts Coalition, a network of arts organizations and individual artists that produce ethnic-based art from other cultures for New York audiences. The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) is extending the Off-Broadway run of the musical "Amerike -- The Golden Land" through Sunday August 20.

In a time when issues of immigration, assimilation, xenophobia, and socio-economic upheaval are more present than ever, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene will bring to the stage a reimagined version of Moishe Rosenfeld and Zalmen Mlotek's Amerike-The Golden Land, a musical journey of the immigration experience. Playing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, across from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, from which the story has taken inspiration, this limited Off Broadway engagement opened last night and will run through August 6th. 103 seasons and going strong - and not just because of nostalgia. The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene has reimagined 'Amerike - The Golden Land', the 1984 musical by Zalmen Mlotek and Moishe Rosenfeld, appropriately running near Ellis Island. Weaving incredible stories with fantastic songs, multimedia and choreography, the show creates a dynamic portrayal of the Jewish people who immigrated to the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, much like my own grandparents.

Further evidence that Yiddish is suddenly hip in 2017 was on flashy display last night at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, as the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene welcomed a diverse and eclectic crowd to celebrate mothers and the mother tongue in grand style. Prominent producer Daryl Roth and nine other women trailblazers in the arts, sciences, business and philanthropy were honored, and a dazzling all-female cast performed one showstopper after another. The evening's mother hen was the fabulous four-time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh, who delighted the audience with her funny and peppery mix of wisdom and heartfelt cheerleading for the Jewish mothers attending and for the Jewish mother in all of us.

Four-time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh and the Emmy and Tony Award-winning David Hyde Pierce will be among those appearing in the Drama Desk Award-winning National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene's Mother's Day gala concert, Our Leading Ladies, at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, 566 LaGuardia Place, on Sunday May 14, at 6:30pm.
