Bushwick Starr and Brooklyn Gypsies to Host OYE! AVANT GARDE NIGHT Festival

OYE! Avant Garde Night is an annual festival devoted to the development of new performances by artists from Bushwick and surrounding areas. Brooklyn Gypsies created OYE! as a platform to celebrate and share what is unique about Bushwick's converging arts communities. Join us for a night of eclectic theater, dance & film, including a melodrama puppet opera of two electrons in the throes of Nitrogen Fixation and a man wandering the silk road. Performances followed by music, conversation, food and dancing.

Chris Tanner's FOOTBALL HEAD Comes to La Mama, 6/20-29

La MaMa will present Chris Tanner's 'Football Head: tales of shame and humiliation', running June 20-29, 2014. Tanner returns to The Club at La MaMa this June for the world premiere of his show.

The Wooster Group Presents EARLY SHAKER SPIRITUALS at The Performing Garage, Now thru 6/15

The Wooster Group will present EARLY SHAKER SPIRITUALS: A RECORD ALBUM INTERPRETATION at The Performing Garage from today, May 17 through June 15, 2014. The newest Wooster Group work, EARLY SHAKER SPIRITUALS is a performance based on a 1976 LP of Shaker hymns, marches, anthems, and testimony recorded by Sister R. Mildred Barker and the sisters of the Shaker community in Sabbathday Lake, Maine.

Mikhail Baryshnikov and Willem Dafoe to Star in THE OLD WOMAN at BAM, 6/22-29

Oscar-nominated actor and founding Wooster Group member Willem Dafoe and legendary performer Mikhail Baryshnikov are a dapperly dressed odd couple, forced to deal with the most inconsiderate of corpses in this surreal melding of absurdism, pitch- black comedy, and vaudeville from iconic director Robert Wilson, THE OLD WOMAN.

Mississippi Mud Presents SHOTGUN COTTAGE PLAYS, Begin. Tonight

NYC based theatre company Mississippi Mud Productions announces its first production in Lido Beach, NY located about 25 miles outside of NYC. The company produces Tennessee Williams' one-acts Moony's Kid Don't Cry, directed by Jen Danby; The Lady of Larkspur Lotion, directed by Daniel Capalbo, Jr, with Miss Danby as Mrs. Hardwicke-Moore, an early sketch of Blanche DuBois; and Interior: Panic, an early sketch of A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Edward Bergen and starring Jen Danby and Colleen Leone as sisters Blanche and Grace. Three plays, music, raffles and refreshments. Tickets on sale online @ http://shotguncottage.brownpapertickets.com - $25 General Admission, $15 Student/Senior, $10 Under 18.

St. Ann's Warehouse to Present 16th Annual LABAPALOOZA! Festival of New Puppet Theater, 5/29-6/1

The Puppet Lab, which celebrates its 16th anniversary this year, is St. Ann's Warehouse'sexperimental haven for artists developing interdisciplinary projects for puppet and object theater. Under the direction of Lab Co-Directors Matthew Acheson and Krissy Smith, participating artists and their collaborators have met weekly over several months to develop projects, share puppetry elements and other design and technical ideas, discuss plot structure and character development, and work on narrative. They will present their works-in-progress in the annual Labapalooza! festival, which will run May 29 - June 1 at St. Ann's Warehouse (29 Jay Street, Brooklyn).

Young Jean Lee's STRAIGHT WHITE MEN Premieres at Wexner Center, Now thru 4/13

Acclaimed playwright/director Young Jean Lee returns to the Wexner Center for the Arts, today, April 10-13 for the world premiere of STRAIGHT WHITE MEN, a provocative new work presented with an all-star cast (Austin Pendleton, Scott Shepherd, Pete Simpson, and James Stanley) and finalized through the support of the Wexner Center Residency Award program.

New York City Players Presents Richard Maxwell's ISOLDE, Now thru 4/26

Following a 2013 world premiere at Theater Basel in Switzerland, New York City Players presents the U.S. premiere of Isolde. Returning to a core group of collaborators, Isolde, written and directed by Maxwell, features an ensemble of New York City Players veterans including Jim Fletcher, Brian Mendes, Tory Vazquez and Gary Wilmes. Maxwell's choice to not use any music in Isolde further supports a desire to excavate his own characteristically distilled approach to story telling. Isolde was inspired by the legend of Tristan and Isolde.

Andrew Schneider to Receive 2014 Tom Murrin Performance Award

Dixon Place has announced the recipient of the 2014 (second annual) Tom Murrin Performance Award, a.k.a. 'The Tommy.' Intended to a transformative career opportunity to an early career NYC-based artistic or company, this year's award will be presented to Andrew Schneider, a performance / interactive-electronics artist who was previously a seven-year member of the Wooster Group. The second annual Tommy Award presentation will take place at Dixon Place (161a Chrystie Street, New York City) on Sunday, April 27th at 7:30PM. The awards celebration - featuring a special appearance by the 2013 Tommy Award winner, talk-of-the-town performance company ANIMALS, as well as Tom Murrin's wife, Patricia Sullivan -- will be the final stop of a parade of spontaneous outdoor performances, which will commence at closing of the Tom Murrin Full Moon Performance Festival at La Mama. The parade will begin approximately at 6:45pm and travel from East 4th Street to Dixon Place. The Tommy Award party at Dixon Place is FREE, with a cash bar all night.

Glover, Pennington, Shepherd, Sullivan & Taymor Set for Drama Desk Shakespeare Panel at Sardi's Today

Distinguished American actor John Glover (Witch/A Porter/Murderer 3 in Lincoln Center's Macbeth) will join Drama Desk's 'Why Shakespeare? Why Now?' at Sardi's today, April 4 (11:45 AM-2:30 PM), it was announced by Isa Goldberg, president of Drama Desk. Glover will join panelists-actors Michael Pennington and Scott Shepherd and directors Daniel Sullivan and Julie Taymor-in the lively discussion exploring the reasons why New York's current theater season has such a distinctive Shakespearean flavor. Carol Rocamora, an educator, critic, playwright, translator, and Drama Desk member, will be the moderator.
