The Grow a Show Musical Theatre Workshop returns to the Lied Center, offering emerging artists a platform to develop and showcase new works.

The iconic Tony Award-winning musical ANNIE is returning to Chicago and New York City this holiday season with a limited three-week engagement at The Chicago Theatre from November 12 through December 1 and a limited five-week engagement at The Theater at Madison Square Garden from December 4, 2024 through January 5, 2025.

Occasionally, you see a show that renews your faith in what the arts do, like seeing The Color Purple in a field. It’s a show that reminds you why people love musicals. THE COLOR PURPLE from The Garden Theatre and the Sankofa Collective is just such a thing. It has heart, soul, and some of the best local talent you will ever see.

Bill Kenwright Ltd has announced the cast for the globally acclaimed Ghost the Musical. The tour will open on 22 August 2024 at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre ahead of a major national tour continuing into 2025.

Sister Act ranks pretty high up as one of my favorite movies, so getting to see SISTER ACT JR at The Royal Theatre in Benton was a real treat. From July 11-21, the Young Players performed to packed houses with some of those shows being sold out. It is astounding that these thespians put out such a great performance. I am excited to continue to watch them grow throughout their theatrical endeavors.  

Singer-songwriter Rae Isla has released her new album New Frontier. The album was produced by Isla with guitarist/composer Pablo Valero. In addition to this new album release, you can hear Rae Isla's voice in movie theaters across the US in Robert DeNiro's film Ezra, and play her viral custom cowgirl video game Miles and Miles.

Dear Readers, the musical version of the hit 1992, Whoopi Goldberg comedy “Sister Act” has never been one of my favorites. On paper it should work with an Alan Menken score and fabulous source material were it not for those lackluster Glenn Slater lyrics. He writes passable songs but nothing that truly grabs you. But it’s a big, flashy musical with nuns rocking out so it isn’t all bad. But I must emphasize “big”, which is why the choice to put this up on Taproot Theatre’s quite cozy space baffled me. However, director Bretteney Beverly managed it. Sure, there were some downfalls, but overall, she managed it.

Magician Asi Wind's INCREDIBLY HUMAN premieres in the UK following a sold-out season in New York.

Tickets are now on sale for the UK premiere of ASI WIND’S new magic show INCREDIBLY HUMAN. Previewing at the Underbelly Boulevard in Soho from 3 September, the show will run for an initial 4 month season. 

Broadway alums Audra McDonald, Richard Kind, Mary Louise Parker, K. Todd Freeman, and Ben Vereen will all be leading a new independent film from William Atticus Parker, the son of Mary-Louise Parker. Titled The Auction, the film is a loose adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic mystery novel And Then There Were None.

David Dean Bottrell will bring his two one-man shows Dear Mr. Bottrell, I Cannot Possibly Accept This and The Death of Me Yet in rep to the Matrix opening July 10, 2024. David graciously took time out of his rehearsals to answer a few of my queries.

Back in the summer of 1994, Disney's latest animation film The Lion King raked in almost $1 billion at the global box office. After several sequels and long-running shows on Broadway and in the West End, the film is now celebrating its 30th Anniversary and the Royal Albert Hall is giving it the epic Films in Concert treatment.
