The August Wilson Monologue Competition announces the Chicago winners of the 2021 August Wilson Monologue Competition and the new “Designing August” competition.

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance, a program within the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts at Wayne State University will present Pingree's Past written by guest artist Garlia Cornelia Jones.

Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman were nominated for their Leading Actor roles in 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom,' the Netflix film adaptation of the 1982 play by August Wilson. The film was also nominated for Best Costumes, Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

The August Wilson Monologue Competition announces the finalists for the 2021 August Wilson Monologue Competition and the new “Designing August” competition.  The Chicago finals will be held virtually on March 22, 2021 at 6pm. Each year, hundreds of high schoolers compete for a chance to represent Chicago in the national competition, which will also be held virtually this year.
