An evening of nostalgic and well-loved music will kick off the Sandy Springs Veterans' Day observance this year. On Saturday evening, November 9, 2019, the vintage singing trio, The Beverly Belles, will perform at Byers Theatre paying tribute to our country's veterans past and present. On Monday, November 11, 2019, at 11:30 a.m., the City's annual Veterans' Day event will take place on the Green at City Springs.

I recently had the great pleasure of interviewing actor Korie Lee Blossey, who at the time of our conversation was getting ready to start performances as the Genie in the national tour of Disney's Aladdin in Charlotte, North Carolina. He made his national tour debut as a standby for the role about two and a half years prior to this. A New Yorker by way of Michigan, some of Korie's previous credits include Kerchak in Tarzan, Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Caliban in The Tempest, and Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors.

Deadline reports that 'Game of Thrones' star Iwan Rheon has joined the cast of a horror-thriller film from J. Mackye Gruber: 'Suppression.' The film alos stars Stephanie Leonidas, Lex Shrapnel, and Ella-Rae Smith.

Last week, City of Hope, a world-renowned independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, hosted its Music, Film and Entertainment Industry Group's 15th annual Songs of Hope at Alex da Kid's KIDinaKORNER Kampus. This year's event brought together more than 300 music industry celebrities and professionals to honor their peers, bringing in upward of $400,000, a record-breaking year! In total, Songs of Hope has raised over $4.5 million for City of Hope.

On August 4th, 2019, the new play reading series, A Place at the Table, held its first reading featuring an all womxn cast of Arthur Miller's 1964 play, Incident at Vichy. A Place at the Table, conceived by Olivia Daniels, Sarah Hogewood, and Ellie Handel, was created to take classic plays and reimagine them through a contemporary lens, offering womxn artists the chance to perform in roles that were not originally written with their voices in mind.

But leave it to Mel Brooks (and Gene Wilder, his co-writer on the 1974 film) to create such a protagonist and to surround him with memorable characters in a story set to music that's a wonderful homage to the very best of classic Broadway and silver screen musicals!
