Greenhouse Theater Center and Poor Box Theater, in association with D.C's award winning Taffety Punk Theatre Company, are pleased to present THE AMERICAN MERCY TOUR: MERCY KILLERS and SIDE EFFECTS, two one-act plays steeped in America's controversial relationship with healthcare. Written and performed by Michael Milligan and directed by Tom Oppenheim, these moving and unapologetic pieces will be presented as a single theatrical event, immersing the audience in the stories of patients and physicians, coming out of the waiting room and into the fray.  (more...)

Williams' new play, Democracy(sic). play runs from September 15 - October 14, 2017 for 12 performances. cast features HCLAB alums Dan Evans, Victoria Martinez, James Warfield, and first-time company members Alex Best, Carlis Shane Clark, Steven Humphreys, Stacey Jordan, and Josh Owen. The Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, is now accepting new play submissions. In the tenth annual search for a resident playwright, the division is calling for new dramatic works written exclusively by playwrights who identify as any of the following: Mexican, Muslim, African-American, immigrant, refugee, disabled, female or LGBTQ. The division is also seeking ensemble plays for casts of seven to ten female roles or gender neutral roles; all playwrights are welcome to apply with an ensemble play. (more...)

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater and Radical Evolution today announced its presentation of Loving and Loving, a play by Beto O'Byrne, developed with Meropi Peponides, opening on June 12, 2017, the 50th anniversary of the historic Loving v. Virginia decision of the United States Supreme Court that overturned laws criminalizing interracial marriage in the U.S. The play examines the landmark court case from a 21st Century perspective, exploring the complexities of intimacy and identity, the impact of law on our most personal decisions, and the ongoing legacy of this case in our present, multiracial America. Although Clifford Odets forgotten masterpiece 'Rocket to the Moon' first premiered back in 1938, many of the themes of the Depression-era drama feel totally in step today with our own financial and career woes. With its central character, Ben Stark, (Jesse Steccato) is a dentist stuck in an unhappy marriage and a stagnant dental practice who longs for both more money as well as more passion and joy in his life. Things are set on a collision course with fate when he hires the beautiful, young Cleo Singer (lovely Kristin Couture) as his new receptionist. As his marriage fails and he succumbs to Cleo's flirting, will she be his proverbial rocket to the moon, thus allowing his dreams to come true? And will he be willing to change his life and take the necessary risks in order to make that happen? (more...)
