Next up at Laguna Playhouse, Love Among the Ruins world premieres October 30, 2022 (with previews starting October 26th). Michael Arabian directs the stellar cast of JoBeth Williams and Peter Strauss in this adaptation of the 1975 ABC Theatre Presentation that starred Katherine Hepburn and Laurence Olivier. Peter graciously found some time between rehearsals and his orange farm to answer a few of my queries.

The place is a communal residence in a New England city, where four mentally handicapped men live under the supervision of an earnest, but increasingly 'burned out' young social worker named Jack.

When a museum celebrating the Ku Klux Klan opens in a small South Carolina town, the idealistic Reverend Kennedy (Academy Award®-winner Forest Whitaker) resolves to do everything in his power to prevent long-simmering racial tensions from boiling over. But the members of Kennedy's congregation are shocked to discover that his plan includes sheltering Mike Burden (Garrett Hedlund), a Klansman whose relationships with both a single-mother (Andrea Riseborough) and a high-school friend (Usher Raymond) force him to re-examine his long-held beliefs. After Kennedy helps Mike leave behind his violent past, the Baptist preacher finds himself on a collision course with manipulative KKK leader Tom Griffin (Tom Wilkinson).

But if you could, the motley (yet adorable) crew in The Boys Next Door might be your choice for the folks you would like to see in the next house over. This warm and effective comedy by Tom Griffin, which opens at Newnan Theatre Company on March 7th, deals with four mentally challenged men living in a group home supervised by their young caseworker. Each member of Jack's quartet has a different degree of difficulty when coping with the world, but all embrace life as well as they can manage.

At Pioneer Theatre Company, ONCE is luminous. Working hand-in-glove, Director Pirronne Yousefzadeh and Music Director Tom Griffin have guided the full cast and production team to stage a heart-piercingly beautiful production of the Tony-winning Best Musical.

The Boys Next Door is a series of vignettes blending scenes from the residents' daily lives (where "little things" sometimes become both momentous and comic) with moments of great poignancy, reminding us that those with disabilities are like everyone else, wanting only to love, laugh and find some meaning and purpose in life. Bridge Players Theatre Company is producing Tom Griffin's The Boys Next Door, directed by Edwin Howard, as a part of their 43rd season: A Season of Dreams.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Pioneer Theatre Company presents the romantic, Tony Award-winning musical Once, with music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova and book by Enda Walsh. Based on the motion picture written and directed by John Carney, the Sundance film-turned-Broadway-hit won eight Tonys, including Best Musical. The touching love ballad, 'Falling Slowly,' also won the Oscar for Best Song. It runs February 15 through March 2, 2019.
