For its 50th season, The Negro Ensemble Company, Inc. (NEC) has been presenting a retrospective of some of the troupe's signature works. The culminating event of this landmark season will be NEC's most famous and successful production, 'A Soldier's Play' by Charles Fuller, which NEC first presented in 1981 at Theatre Four.

Anthony J. Wilkinson's Big Gay Italian Trilogy, which have all played at different times Off-Broadway since 2003, has been picked up by Resorts Casino and will play this summer in the 1350 seat Superstar Theater. "My Big Gay Italian Wedding" will play June 30, 2017, "My Big Gay Italian Funeral" will play July 28, 2017, and "My Big Gay Italian Midlife Crisis" will play September 1, 2017 all at 9pm.

Mid-Michigan's award winning professional theatre company, Williamston Theatre, located at 122 S. Putnam in downtown Williamston, continues their theatrical experience in 'found spaces' (rooms that are not traditional theatre spaces), Dark Nights in Billtown. Written and directed by Red Rose Chain's founder and director, Joanna Carrick, this is a story of love, betrayal, jealousy and treason.

Ken Davenport of Davenport Theatrical Enterprises presented a reading of the new play Schooled, written by Lisa Lewis and directed by Jules Ochoa, as part of the Davenport Developmental Reading Series. Schooled stars Tony nominee Peter Friedman (Playwrights Horizon's Circle Mirror Transformation), Sarah Steele (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's Slowgirl), Harry Zittel (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's All-American) and Zoe Winters (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's 4000 Miles).
