The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati Honored with SETC's Sara Spencer Child Drama Award

The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) has been awarded The Sara Spencer Child Drama Award, by The Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC). The award recognizes the work of an individual or organization for dynamic and engaging work for young people. Nominees can excel in such areas as playwriting, performance, audience development, curriculum development, funding, scholarship, community programs, research, television programming, creative drama or other enrichment programs at their community, state, regional or national level.

Jeffrey Seller, Producer of HAMILTON, Helps Fund JumpStart Theatre in Detroit

Detroit middle schoolers will get their shot to experience the educational benefits of theatre starting next school year, thanks to the producer of Hamilton, the University of Michigan, and the Educational Theatre Foundation (ETF). A new partnership between ETF and the University's School of Music, Theatre & Dance (STMD) will bring JumpStart Theatre (JST), a program that creates sustainable theatre arts programs in middle schools where there previously were none, to Detroit in 2020-21 a?" growing JST's reach to six areas around the country.

Des Moines Playhouse Announces 102nd Season Including KINKY BOOTS and More!

The Des Moines Playhouse announced its 102nd year of live theatre at a party Monday, Feb. 24, 2020. The 2020-21 Season includes seven musicals plus drama, comedy, and shows for the entire family. Playhouse season tickets go on sale Mar. 17, 2020, online at dmplayhouse.com and at The Playhouse ticket office.

NKU Dance Concert Features New Works By Guest Artists

Northern Kentucky University's School of the Arts will present DANCE '20, an evening of new works by guest artists, faculty, and students. Twelve dynamic dances will add up to an evening of concert pieces that highlight various styles of dance, including ballet, modern, jazz, musical theatre, tap, and dance theatre. Performances take place March 6-7 at NKU's Corbett Theatre. The production is coordinated by the artistic team of Frankie Montazemi, Anna Gortner, Sylvia Chervus, DJ Bruggee, and Tracey Bonner.

Idris Goodwin Named New Director of the Fine Arts Center

Idris (pronunciation: Ee-drees) Goodwin, an accomplished playwright, poet, director, educator and organizer, will be the next director of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College (FAC), effective May 1, 2020.

BWW Interview: Jason Pumarada in BUNNY BOY at The Growing Stage 2/8 TO 2/16

The Growing Stage will present the world premiere production of 'BUNNYBOY' by Philip Kaplan. The show will be on the Netcong stage from February 8 through 16 with performances on Saturdays at 4:00PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM. Broadwayworld.com had the pleasure of interviewing Jason Pumarada who plays Skip in the show.

Bronx Arts Ensemble Announces Free Children's Musical Series at Bronx Public Libraries 

Bronx Arts Ensemble(BAE) and the Children's Theatre Company at Lehman College will perform several performances of each of three musicals this spring at local branches of the New York Public Library in a newly official and ongoing partnership. These musicals have a long history with the Bronx Arts Ensemble, going back to the first performance of Peter and the Wolf in 1980, and in recent years the musical series has evolved to the commissioning of fully original scores. On March 11, 2020, BAE and the Lehman Children's Theatre will present the World Premiere of Penelope's Rainy Day, with book and lyrics by Dante Albertie and music by Mary Ann McSweeney, at Edenwald Library, with performances to follow at the Bronx Library Center and Wakefield Library. All performances listed below are free and open to the public.

Virginia Repertory Theatre Presents August Wilson's FENCES

This Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama will be presented at Virginia Rep's November Theatre (114 West Broad Street) beginning February 7th, 2020 with two preview performances on Wednesday, February 5th and Thursday, February 6th. August Wilson's powerful masterwork will be onstage through March 1st. Fences is presented as part of the Acts of Faith Festival. 

The Growing Stage Will Present the 9th Annual NEW PLAY-READING FESTIVAL

The Children's Theatre of New Jersey, located in the Historic Palace Theatre on Route 183 in Netcong, New Jersey has announced four plays selected for their 9th Annual New Play-Reading Festival happening January 31st to February 2nd . In the New Play-Reading Festival, four brand-new plays for young audiences, chosen from 150 submitted works, will be read by professional and community artists in a casual setting. Following each reading, the entire family can participate in discussion of the work with the professional team.
