As we embark on our voyage through the 2020s, it will be exciting to see if Lopez's lofty ambitions become a reality. After all, Boston theatre has just come through a huge decade of change in which our city's pertinence to the theatre world has grown. Let's look at how our relevance as a city has changed in regards to theatre as an art form in the past decade: 

Mischief Theatre, the Olivier award-winning company behind The Play That Goes Wrong, has announced a new booking period for Magic Goes Wrong, with tickets now on sale until 30th August 2020. Created with magic legends Penn & Teller, this is the second production as part of Mischief Theatre's residency at the Vaudeville Theatre.

Penn & Teller today announced they will appear at Queensland Performing Arts Centre's (QPAC) Concert Hall from 7 to 11 April 2020 for their first ever Australian shows, in the magic duo's 45th year of working together.

Following a hugely successful, 60 date debut tour of the UK, Britain's Got Talent 2019 finalist, West End star and multi award-winning magician, Ben Hart, makes his highly anticipated return to The Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year after four total sell-out critically acclaimed previous shows.

Folger Theatre concludes its successful 2019/20 season with The Merry Wives of Windsor. Aaron Posner (King John, The Winter's Tale, Twelfth Night at Folger Theatre) returns to the Folger to direct Shakespeare's delightful comedy on love, money, deception, and the power of women, set here in the early 1970s.

A select group of seven of the world's most amazing magicians are checking into Adelaide's Hotel Richmond, 128 Rundle Mall and transforming their rooms into bespoke, intimate performance spaces especially for the 2020 Adelaide Fringe from 14 February to 15 March.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 40 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2020 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 15 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

Hollywood's drunkest magic show, DIRTY TRICKS w/ The New Bad Boys of Magic, extends into its third smash(ed) year at The Three Clubs. Headliners at the world-famous Magic Castle, The New Bad Boys of Magic (aka Daniel Donohue and Eric Siegel), continue to shock and delight audiences with their signature brand of NSFW character comedy and top-notch illusions. Joining them for each performancea?'generally running on the third Sunday of each montha?'is a rotating cast of the world's foremost professional prestidigitators. Audience members (21-and-over, please) arrive early to grab drinks and enjoy close-up magic performed right at their tables. Co-produced by Greg Karber, the first three DIRTY TRICKS shows of the year are scheduled for Sunday, January 19th, Sunday, February 16th and Sunday, March 15, 2020. Doors open at 7:00pm for cocktails and close-up magic. The Bad Boys take the stage at 8:00pm and the show goes until 9:15pm. Back in the spotlight with a sublime new rhythm and blues record, James Hunter follows up six critically acclaimed albums with his latest recording, Nick of Time, set for release on Brooklyn's renowned soul label Daptone Records. Nick of Time is a shining testament of how a master songsmith continually draws fresh water from a bottomless well. Recorded and produced by Bosco Mann, Nick of Time features one of today's foremost soul singers at the top of his game performing with musicians who've backed some of the biggest contemporary music stars including Daptone artists Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley. Nick of Time will be internationally released on March 6, 2020.

The world premiere of Mischief Theatre's Magic Goes Wrong, the new collaboration from the creators of The Play That Goes Wrong and magicians Penn & Teller, opened in the West End yesterday, January 8 at London's Vaudeville Theatre.

Mischief Theatre continue their epic takeover of the West End, with their brand new show all about magic going terribly wrong. This time the company have collaborated with superstar magicians Penn & Teller; two people who are at the top of their game, and normally headline their own show in Las Vegas. The whole evening is a delight from start to finish a?' something you come to expect at a Mischief night.

The Whitefire Theatre presents SOLOFEST 2020, the largest solo theater festival on the West Coast. Now in its 8th year, SOLOFEST 2020 brings 80 shows in 90 days celebrating solo artists from around the globe - each story-teller sharing their compelling and often unusual take on life. SOLOFEST 2020 runs January 4 - March 28.

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati is kicking off the new year with the mystifying regional premiere comedy Fortune by Deborah Zoe Laufer, coming to the stage January 18-February 15, 2020. Sure to spark warmth this winter, this quirky comedy is about finding love, whether it's in the cards or not.
