The point of musical theater (for most people) is pure entertainment, and the New Theatre & Restaurant original production of 1981’s DREAMGIRLS hits the bullseye. DREAMGIRLS is directed by Jerry Jay Cranford and stars a comparatively large, twenty-one member cast backed by an eight-piece orchestra.  Cranford has assembled a cast of Broadway belters and fine dancers to tell the tale of a Supremes-like black female singing trio around 1960 and in the decade to follow.   The show is flashy and impeccably costumed.  The set, while relatively simple, is technically superior. LED screens are used across the background to simulate locations.  Not much was spared when the producer was asked to fund this production.  Choreography by Courtney German is frenetic, well drilled, and perfectly appropriate for this genre.  The musical score is spectacular by Henry Krieger and Tom Eyen.   Several numbers (including the title track) became number one hits outside the show.

Sivan wrote the songs for the new album with Oscar Görres (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Sam Smith), Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa, Britney Spears), Leland (Selena Gomez, Ava Max) and Styalz Fuego (Khalid, Imagine Dragons). THE MUSICAL is running through July 23rd at California Center for the Arts in Escondido.

Liverpool Theatre Festival returns in less than two weeks – and one highlight of the 11-day programme is Sober Companion, a specially commissioned new play co-written and co-starring Liverpool-born actor Joe McGann and Jake Norton. 

FUNNY GIRL, the sensational musical comedy revival, launches its national tour at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) for a limited one-week engagement from September 9 - 16, 2023.

Celebrated for his clean and relatable comedic style, Bargatze will present an additional show of “The Be Funny” Tour at Encore Theater on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023. Tickets for this performance go on sale to the public this Friday, July 14, 2023 at 10 a.m. PST.

Cortland Repertory Theatre will present as the fourth mainstage show in their 51st annual summer season the regional premiere of the dramatic comedy “The Cake”, running from July 19 - 28. This timely play, written by Bekah Brunstetter, will have evening shows at 7:30 PM, with matinees on July 21, 22, 23 and 26 at 2:00 PM.

Emmy Award-winning actor Richard Thomas is confirmed to star as Atticus Finch for the complete third touring season of the First National Tour of the history-making production of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin's new play, directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher and based on Harper Lee's classic novel. The production is currently on a multi-year national tour across North America.
