Buffalo Theatre Ensemble Presents THE CAKE

Buffalo Theatre Ensemble presents 'The Cake' by Bekah Brunstetter, directed by Steve Scott, Jan.30-March 1 in the Playhouse Theatre at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. The LA Times calls the play 'funny and smart' and observes, 'The Cake' explores human conflict from an insightful, slightly offbeat perch with understanding, respect and compassion for opposing points of view.' There will be a preview performance 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan 30; press opening is 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31. Performances run through March 1.

FST's Suffragist Project Highlights Intersectionality Of Social Movements

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) presents The Rights of It All, a community conversation presented as part of FST's Suffragist Project. A Co-presentation of the Boxser Diversity Initiative and FST, this event will examine ways the movements behind women's suffrage, LGBTQ+ rights, and women's rights intersect. This panel discussion will take place on January 7, 2020 in FST's Gompertz Theatre at 5PM. It is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Big Bang Improv Returns to Sarasota for Special Residency

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) has announced that Big Bang Improv, a Sarasota Improv Festival favorite, will return to Sarasota the first weekend of January 2020 for a special residency. During their time at FST, the group will perform two improv comedy shows and lead two workshops. Big Bang performances will take place on Friday, January 3 and Saturday, January 4 at 7:30PM in FST's Bowne's Lab Theatre. Tickets are just $15-18 and can be purchased at floridastudiotheatre.org or (941) 366-9000. Improv workshops will be held on January 4 and enrollment is just $35. For the holiday season veteran and award-winning stage actor and play director Darryl Maximilian Robinson ( The Founder, Artistic Director and Producer of the multiracial, non-Equity professional chamber theatre, The Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago and a classically-trained Los Angeles-based performer ) returned to his classical theatre experience ( he began his early professional stage career playing leading and featured roles with The 1982 National Shakespeare Company Tour of New York, The 1985 Indianapolis Shakespeare Festival and The 1989 Bristol Renaissance Faire of Kenosha, Wisconsin ) and reunited with talented editor, video-camerman and fellow actor Danny Belrose to record a less-than-perfect 'Street Theatre' rehearsal of the famed 'St. Crispin's Day Speech' as The King from William Shakespeare's 'Henry V' which Mr. Robinson presented upon the steps of The Entrance of LA's Historic Lincoln Heights Jail ( which he referred to as 'The Old Cypress Prison' ) on the afternoon of December 19, 2019 as part of a series of theatrical activities Mr. Robinson is sharing as part of The Excaliber Shakespeare Company Los Angeles Archival Project.

Asolo Repertory Theatre Presents THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT

Asolo Rep continues its winter repertory season with the recent Broadway sizzling hit dramedy THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT, by Jeremy Kareken & David Murrell and Gordon Farrell. Directed by Asolo Rep Associate Artistic Director Celine Rosenthal, THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT previews January 22 and 23, opens January 24 and runs through March 19 in rotating repertory in the Mertz Theatre, located in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts.

MCCC's DESIRES OF A CRIMINAL Invited To Kennedy Center Festival

After a three-show run at Mercer County Community College's (MCCC) Studio Theatre, the college's Academic and Dance Theatre students' performance of 'Desires of a Criminal, a Devised Theatrical Collage,' will return to local theatre for an encore performance that will support the show's appearance at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in January.
