In the theater community Jamie deRoy is a well known Broadway producer but in the Friars community she is also acclaimed as an entertainer. Friar Jamie deRoy furthermore has the distinction of being the 8th woman to become a Friar subsequent to the men's only club changing it's rules in 1988. Jamie deRoy who is usually the earliest to spot an opportunity had to wait behind the likes of Liza Minnelli, Joan Rivers Gloria Allred, and Brooke Shields who were also among the first to join the Friars Club.

Happy New Year to the Syracuse area theater community! We have a new year filled a variety of theatrical productions throughout the greater Syracuse area coming up! We are fortunate to live in an area that has so many talented actors, technicians, and directors as well as dedicated theater companies - not to mention supportive theatergoers. From the local theaters to the Equity tours that come through the area, we are lucky that Syracuse offers many opportunities to experience live theater. Having seen countless productions in this area since I was young and reviewed many shows for the past few years, I thought I would take a moment to share which productions I am most excited about in 2019!
Redhouse Arts Center Present ALMOST MAINE

Redhouse starts the new year off with its production of the Off-Broadway hit, Almost Maine written Broadway actor and writer John Cariani. The show will run from January 24th - February 9th at its theater complex at City Center.

The Redhouse Arts Center is now entertaining Syracuse audiences with none other than the hilarious and bold musical comedy La Cage Aux Folles. With fabulous direction by Cassie Abate, the Tony Award-winning musical is without a doubt dazzling, powerful, heartwarming, and full of laughs. It is pure comedic fun mixed with a powerful lesson on acceptance.
Redhouse Arts Center closes its 2017-18 Season with LA CAGE AUX FOLLES

Redhouse will close its 2017-18 season with the ever-popular musical La Cage aux Folles, book by Harvey Feirstein, based on the play by Jean Poiret. Performances will take place at Redhouse Arts Center, from May 31 - June 10, 2018. In addition, Redhouse will celebrate its Grand Opening of its new home at 400 S. Salina Street with a special event and ribbon cutting taking place June 1st prior to the opening night show. La Cage aux Folles, based on the same 1973 play which was also the inspiration for the movie "The Birdcage" starring Nathan Lane and Robin Williams, will close the 2017/18 season. This comedic and heartfelt show features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, composer of Broadway hits Hello, Dolly! and Mame.
Breaking Glass to Release HOOKED, Max Emerson's LGBT Homeless Youth Focused Feature With Support In Mind

Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to writer/director Max Emerson's poignant LGBTQ tale HOOKED. Breaking Glass acquired rights to the film in April in a deal negotiated between Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Max Emerson on behalf of the Hooked Project. The film will open theatrically in Los Angeles on June 1, followed by a DVD & VOD release on June 5, 2018.
Winners Announced For Acting For Others Golden Bucket Awards 2018

The winners were today announced for theatrical charity Acting For Others' Golden Bucket Awards 2018. The ceremony took place at the Prince of Wales Theatre and was hosted by musical theatre star, Carl Mullaney. The awards celebrate the most supportive and successful fundraisers who have helped the charity raise in excess of £390,000 in the last twelve months.
Redhouse's ON GOLDEN POND Starring TV Star Fred Grandy Opens at Redhouse at City Center, 3/8

Redhouse Arts Center is thrilled to inaugurate its new City Center home with Ernest Thompson's classic On Golden Pond. Performances will take place March 8-18, 2018 and will mark the first performances at the brand new Redhouse at City Center, located at 400 South Salina Street, which boasts three new theatres, an attached parking garage, full service concession, larger lobby space, and much, much more. The show will feature actor and TV star Fred Grandy, lovingly know as "Gopher" by his millions of fans around the world who watched him on the long-running TV Series The Love Boat. On Golden Pond was adapted to an academy award winning movie in 1981 which starred Henry Fonda who won the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Actor in what was his final film role. Don't miss this gorgeously witty and heart warming classic featuring an all star cast.
