The rustic elegance of The Wallis's Sorting Room continues its third season with nine eclectic programs from June 13 - 29, 2019.  The Sorting Room transforms the Lovelace Studio Theater into a 140-seat custom built nightclub space that offers Los Angeles audiences a rare opportunity to experience some of the best and emerging talent in cabaret, live contemporary music, spoken word, and more. Last year, NBC announced that its next live musical would be Hair, airing in spring 2019. In July, the network scheduled the event for Sunday, May 19. When Sunday rolls around, however, Hair Live! won't be airing, because in February, NBC shelved the live musical permanently.

This week's decluttering is only freeing up a tiny bit of space in my collection, but it represents an enormous place in my heart. The only version of The Wiz I have on CD is the AMAZING/IF YOU DON'T KNOW IT, YOU'RE NOT A REAL BROADWAY FAN original cast album starring Stephanie Mills. I do have the movie soundtrack in my iTunes and the soundtrack of 'The Wiz Live!' is on Apple Music, so let's dive in.

Acclaimed singer and songwriter ABIAH will headline two very different performances, on Friday, February 15, and Saturday, February 16, at 9:30 p.m. at Joe's Pub, 425 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10003. His Friday night show will be dedicated to music from his 2017 release ABIAH sings NINA, a tribute to the music of the late soul icon Nina Simone. Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Fair Moon Stages presents 'Wishes & Dreams: A Celebration of the Music that Animates our Lives' on Sunday, November 4th,, 3pm, at The Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway, NJ. A 30-piece orchestra and 20 vocalists performing delightfully familiar songs from animated movies highlight the concert. The event is a benefit for the company, whose mission is to present accessible and professional theater at affordable prices. Their well-received inaugural season included Disney's High School Musical, Legally Blonde and the NJ premier of Mamma Mia.

Shoshana Greenberg and Hyeyoung Kim announce two mini-workshop presentations of DAYS OF RAGE on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 7pm, and Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 4pm at Town Stages, 221 West Broadway, NYC. The presentations feature Shanice Williams (Dorothy in The Wiz Live) and Alex Joseph Grayson (A Bronx Tale) and will comprise the first act of the show.

Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul, who passed away on August 16th, will be celebrated in story and song at Feinstein's/54 Below on Sunday, October 7th, at 9:30pm, in a concert directed and produced by Robert W. Schneider.

For the second night in a row, the cast of LITTLE ROCK were paid a visit by a special guest. Last night (September 5) GINA BELAFONTE, actress/producer (BLACKKKLANSMEN) and daughter of actor and civil rights activist HARRY BELAFONTE took in the show and met with the cast after the performance. The "Little Rock Nine" made history when on the first day of school, September 4, 1957, they were barred from attending Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, AR.  Sixty one years later (September 4, 2018), former Governor and First Lady of Arkansas - President Clinton and Secretary Clinton - attended a performance of "Little Rock."
