Four wildly diverse live theater productions from Mexico, Argentina and Los Angeles - never before seen in Chicago - will all debut during week three of DESTINOS - the 2nd Chicago International Latino Theater Festival, presented by CLATA, the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance:

Pasadena Playhouse, the State Theater of California announced today that CHIRLA will present the continuation of their "Immigration Art Night - A Celebration of Our Immigrant Heritage," (which begins Thursday June 21 at CHIRLA) on Friday, June 22 to kick off the final weekend of Bordertown Now performances.  The same evening, a post-performance talk will be held with multidisciplinary artists Xicanx Sun Cha and Gabriella Sanchez to discuss art as space and catalyst of identity exploration and experimentation curated by House of Arts and Ideas.

Already in previews, the latest Culture Clash project BORDERTOWN NOW runs through June 24, 2018 at the Pasadena Playhouse. We had the chance to query director Diane Rodriguez on her history with the nation's premier Chicano/Latino performance trio, as well as, on some of the projects she's currently involved with - Center Theatre Group, the NEA and BORDERTOWN NOW.

Center Theatre Group's extended run of 'Spamilton' at the Kirk Douglas Theatre plays now through January 7, 2018. Created, directed and written by Gerard Alessandrini, the West Coast premiere of 'Spamilton' began previews on November 5, 2017, and opened last night, November 12. The Ford Theatres today announced a spectacular season for Summer 2017 at the fully transformed John Anson Ford Amphitheatre. The 2017 season will open today, July 15 with a performance by famed tap dancer and choreographer Savion Glover and runs through Monday, October 16.

The Ford's 2017 season lineup celebrates diverse cultures through theatre and performing arts. Highlights include Yitzhak Rabin: Chronicle of an Assassination, presented with the Skirball Cultural Center, in association with The Lincoln Center Festival; and The Hubble Cantata - in association with the LA Opera - an hour-long, space-inspired cantata featuring music by composer Paola Prestini, libretto by Royce Vavrek and a cutting-edge virtual reality film, Fistful of Stars, by Eliza McNitt.

The American Theatre Wing nominated two plays commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for 2017 Tony Awards today, including Best Play. Commissioned through OSF's American Revolutions: The United States History Cycle, Sweat by Lynn Nottage and Indecent by Paula Vogel each received three nominations.

 The Latino Theater Company kicks off its 2017 season exploring themes of identity and its relationship to history with a new socio-political comedy set on board a luxury ocean liner. The world premiere of The Cruise by Jonathan Ceniceroz opens March 16 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center. Low-priced previews continue March 14 and March 15.
