The Simply EP is an expertly curated mix that shines new light on Walk’s already touching and honest writing, putting focus on the emotive lyricism and delicate instrumentation.

“Secrets,” another track written specifically for this EP, is an example of further experimentation and a chance to challenge their production skills, utilising a laid-back groove and synths constructing smooth contemporary R&B.

Recently named by Alternative Press as a “New Artist You Need To Hear,” the 19-year-old musician recorded her debut EP in a cabin just a stone’s throw from her Maine childhood home, bringing a delicate, youthful and intimate touch to her storytelling.

Her previously released cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U” celebrates and reimagines the classic as well as paying homage to fellow Minneapolis native Prince, with Walk’s unique delivery allowing it to exist in a slightly different context.  

Gartland’s newest tracks arrive after her first two acclaimed EPs, 2019’s Why Am I Like This? and the follow up Freckle Season, which was released in February last year.

Walk has wanted to cover Prince for some time, in part due to them both hailing from Minneapolis, but also because collaborators Abe Rounds and Meshell Ndegeocello played the pop legends personal studio Paisley Park in the past.

Steven Mertens formed his first band, Satan’s Rats, at the age of 13 with elementary school friends, a project that led to two decades of tours and collaborations.

“To me, Swimming Lessons is like dipping your feet in the water for the first time,” Genevieve says. “This is my first EP. I’m new to the whole industry, but I’m bringing my perspective to it. I’m drawn to water, because it reminds me of home.'
