10 Hairy Legs, the male repertory dance company will teach 4 Int/Adv Contemporary Classes at STEPS on Broadway Wednesdays and Fridays January 9 - 18 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm. Artistic Director Randy James and members of the Artistic Staff will oversee and observe all the classes. Class begins with dynamic floor sequences that warm up the body's core, using the floor as a tool to explore connectivity throughout the entire body. The floor sequences build on one another, bringing the mover to standing phrases across the floor. Once on two feet the class establishes the body's connection with dynamic shifts in and out of the ground, culminating in a final phrase that builds upon the body's exploration of different initiations with supple and expressive virtuosity. Phrase work from our extensive repertory of commissioned and curated work will be explored.

10 Hairy Legs, the male repertory dance company, will accept and consider submissions to create new works for the company. The initiative is open to anyone seeking to work with the company. Submissions must include a maximum of 10 words to describe the choreographer's vision for the work and a link to one sample representing that artist's dance esthetic.
BroadwayWorld has just learned that LEMPICKA, which ran at the Williamstown Theatre Festival this summer, is in the midst of a developmental lab. The Broadway-bound musical, directed by Tony nominee Rachel Chavkin, with music by Matt Gould and book and lyrics by Carson Kreitzer, starred Eden Espinosa, Amber Iman, Nicholas Belton, Jon Jon Briones, T. New Brooklyn Theatre, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2012 to democratize the American theatre, has announced Raja Feather Kelly as its new Artistic Director. Kelly currently serves as the Founding Artistic Director of the dance-theatre-media company the feath3r theory, which has formally merged with New Brooklyn Theatre. He is the recipient of two Princess Grace Foundation Awards and most recently, the Breakout Award from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation and Dance Magazine's inaugural Harkness Promise Award. the feath3r theory shares the ethos of New Brooklyn Theatre in the mission to broaden space for unheard voices and repressed histories in theatre. Since 2009, the feath3r theory has been recognized as a unique cross-disciplinary theatre company that aims to challenge its audience and creators to interrogate and celebrate their shared relationship to human empathy and personal ethics as expressed in popular media.
The saying, 'Good things come to those who wait,' could certainly be applied to the world premiere of The Good Swimmer playing at BAM's Fishman Space as part of the Next Wave festival from November 28th-December 1st. Defined as a pop requiem for the youth of the Vietnam War, this collaboration between Heidi Rodewald (music) and Donna Di Novelli (lyrics) directed by Kevin Newbury has been the better part of a decade in the making since the two women began working on the piece at a Eugene O'Neill Theater Center residency and left with three songs based on text from out-of-print lifesaving manuals that would become the foundation of The Good Swimmer -- the title song, 'Red Cross' and 'Double Drowning'.

Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director Tim Sanford, Managing Director Leslie Marcus) will, from today, November 12, through Thursday, November 15, accept entries for the Live for Five online lottery, giving out $5 tickets to the New York premiere production of Noura, from 9 Parts of Desire playwright and actor Heather Raffo and director Joanna Settle. The Washington Post deemed this "epic-feeling, nearly searing portrait of a woman torn between cultures and family" the "best premiere of the Women's Voices Theater Festival" when it made its world premiere in Washington, D.C. earlier this year. Produced in association with Shakespeare Theatre Company, it will be performed at Playwrights Horizons from November 27 to December 30. Playwrights Horizons created Live for Five in 2007 as part of their Arts Access program to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-price theater ticket. Since its inception, over 3,000 theatergoers have been able to attend the theater thanks to the initiative.

10 Hairy Legs will provide the Dance to Learn program to all second grade students at iPrep Academy and George Washington School #1 in Elizabeth, NJ in Fall 2018. The Creative Movement Residency includes 14 consecutive weekly classes during the school day taught to 100 students by 10 Hairy Legs Teaching Artist Shawn Brush. Brush works actively as a professional dancer as well as a Teaching Artist. Brush graduated Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University earning BFA's in Dance. The professional company will perform at Jerome Dunn Academy on Thursday, December 20 at 9:30 am with students participating in the program. The performance is free and open to the community.
