On World Theatre Day, March 27th, Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC) will engage twenty-eight playwrights to present 28 ten-minute play readings from 11am to 6pm EST. Today, PGC reached out to its 850+ members, providing reading slots on a first come, first served basis. It filled up in eight minutes!

Pear Theatre kicks off the New Year with Alan Ayckbourn's hilarious farce, Taking Steps (directed by Troy Johnson). FACTORY is proud to present their second CrossCurrents Canada presentation of the 2019-20 Season, the Toronto premiere of BETWEEN BREATHS, an Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland production. Nightwood Theatre announces the winner of the inaugural Strombergs Family Realization Fund: Dian Marie Bridge. This $10,000 cash award, established by theatre director Vinetta Strombergs in honour of her artist parents, is intended to support a woman who has spent at least 20 years in the profession of theatre in any discipline and is now looking for a way to finance a project of passion that includes aspects of theatre, music, and movement.

The Women's Caucus of Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC) is pleased to announce Pamela Halstead as the winner of the 2019 Bra d'Or Award, which recognizes an individual for promoting and supporting the work of women playwrights in Canada.

Ruby Slippers Theatre (RST) enters its 31st season with a five day festival of new plays written and directed by diverse female-identifying artists, Advance Theatre: New Works by Diverse Women. RST is also offering the West Coast English-language premiere of From Alaska by Sébastien Harrisson, translated by Leanna Brodie; as well as featuring Wet'suwet'en artist Taninli Wright's Sis Ne' Bi -Yïz: Mother Bear Speaks, based on the playwright's own inspiring story of healing and reclamation, as part of The Cultch's Femme Series. 

Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC) announces the short lists for its 2019 Tom Hendry Awards. The short lists for the Carol Bolt Award, the RBC Emerging Playwright Award, the Robert Beardsley Award, the Sharon Enkin Plays For Young People Award, as well as the Stage West Comedy & Musical Awards have been released by their respective juries.

Coming to Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater in August is Vern Thiessen's dark comedy, Lenin's Embalmers. running August 9-31, with performances at 8:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Two preview performances, August 7 and 8, begin at 7:30 p.m. Opening night is August 9, at 8 p.m.

PACT is pleased to present the annual Mallory Gilbert Leadership Award to its former board member, and Executive Director of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre Camilla Holland. The award was presented at the annual PACT Conference in Saskatoon, SK. Ergo Pink Fest is a 4-day theatre festival in Toronto (March 28-31, 2019), conceived and hosted by Ergo Arts Theatre (EAT) that gives voice to female and non-binary identified playwrights, providing them a unique platform to develop and showcase their work. The festival, being held at the Small World Music Centre, 180 Shaw Street, brings together award-winning playwrights and dramaturges Beverley Cooper, Marcia Johnson, Anita La Selva, Paula Wing and Elyne Quan to nurture the development of eight new plays.

BroadwayWorld has learned that Lonny Price will direct a production of the musical THE LOUDER WE GET at Theatre Calgary as part of their 2019/2020 season. The musical features a book by Kent Staines, Lyrics by Akiva Romer-Segal and music by Colleen Dauncey.
